Switch wiring oddity

You could replace the lamp with a piezo electric audible warning device. You won't see a small panel lamp light up when you're wearing a mask and looking at the workpiece.

I'll try and meter out the transformer, see if I can find a +12v feed, this should light the LED but hopefully not kickstart the motor.

I bet it's a bulb rather than a LED.

Check the resistance both ways across "line out" and "bulb earth", if it's the same in each direction it's a bulb, or two LEDs back to back, which I very much doubt.

How do you propose connecting the bulb to a separate 12v feed and still use the switch to control the motor?

Correct me if I am wrong but you flick switch to off then set your gas flow, then because you might forget to turn switch back on you want a lamp to show you that the wire feed motor is still off. Surely as soon as you try to weld you will find that the wire is not feeding!! You are making this harder than it needs to be. Get a switch that can be seen at a distance that it is UP or DOWN.

If the welder's got a gas solenoid you could fit a push button to open it whilst checking the gas flow.

You'd need to ensure you didn't get a back circuit to the rest of the machine though.

Just to really complicate things, what about a switch to feed the wire through without wasting gas

And a switch to inhibit the gas when using fluxed wire.

I'm planning all this on my SIP rebuild, along with pre and post flow.

You can always close the valve on the bottle whilst feeding wire, although you'll waste what's in the pipe.
