Stupidity " dirtbike content "

Its never a bad time to buy a new bike. You dont need to stop at one either... But if you havent been offroad for a few years, you will get off feeling dead after 10-15 minutes.
But its not old age as you already said, I remember it being like that as a callow yoof doing motocross intermittently and injuring myself periodically. Its a fit person's sport, and if your not fit, you will be fitter after a few months of it or in plaster. Keeps you young though
I ride a Xl600, but not offroad, its a big fat lardy desert enduro but it is 4 stroke and a single so its got some saving graces even if its honda boring and if you flood it when warm you risk heart failure before it finally kicks into life. I have a classic SP370 enduro thats a bit more suited that I greenlane on that Ive owned 35 years now, but that's a heavy beast compared to what you have too and tends to sink in the mud halfway through a pond crossing etc but its a enduro not motocrosser for leaping in the air on the whoops, and I have had to weld the frame up mistreating it a couple of times already.
I should buy a nice light 2 stroke. Or find a decent KTM LC4 that I lusted after for a while... *temptation*

That thing will go like stink! They are surprisingly quick machines, light as a bicycle. I have a couple of CR500s hiding in the garage and while they are completely mental, at least they don't lure you into a false sense of security.

The ONE thing about two strokes is the insane noise they make on the pipe. It is completely addictive so don't fool yourself, you will be wringing its neck at all times. Brace yourself.

Lost my bike mojo due to age/poor health but just reminiscing is giving me goose bumps. The adrenaline rush of a stroker on full chat was what made life worth living. I may have to revisit that corner of the garage....

No mix to work out , it's oil injected with separate oil tank , electronic pump , the book says 80 hrs top end rebuild but plenty of YT says easily double if not competion use

no cats but after 22/23 they are TBI's not TPI's and yes the emissions spoilers have reached their sticky fingers into the dirt bike world

Yeah no cats now but that video is apparently the new KTM with something that looks like a cat stuck on before the expansion chamber

First time I went trail riding I was early at the meeting point. A load of frantic two strokes pulled up, bulging eyes in MX goggles. I thought they were all kids til they took their helmets off. Half of them were pushing 70

Right back to the " stupid thing " overall nothing major found yet but needs or looking at
new front wheel bearings
new grips
horn not working . as in it's not connected and mounted in the in correct place as is it's catching the fork between the triple clamps
rear plate / light holder hanging . held on with 2 bolts instead of 6
foot pegs flapping , after market wide pegs have been fitted with the spring fitted wrong
front mudgaurd hanging , held on by the light frame only as the 2 bolts are missing
headlight not working , been replaced with an after market led with DRL
no electric start ( although 22 was the last model fitted with leccy and kick start ) goes second kick hot or cold suspecting the bendix as motor spins freely on the button just not engaging the fly wheel and that's the list so far

so I've got the bendix ,front bearings , some grips and a factory bolt pack spend so far £67 and we'll see how it goes oh and it'll probably need chain and sprockets but I'll need to check the wear on the chain maybe some life left yet .

Having recently seen a rather semi- AI documentary on the Churchill tank and its variable pitch track cleats, that might be interesting to try on off road motorcycle tyres.
As long as it isn't me riding the thing, that is.....

Many years ago I had the onerous task of repossessing a trials bike from a very well known trials rider only to find that the "nobbles " on the tread had been doctored by slicing the top 1/8 th of an inch partially off of each one to allow them to open up and provide extra grip in mud etc. Never discovered if he actually used the tire in comps or just an experiment.

Nothing wrong with wellies. Most impercunious trials riders used them in the 60 and before . Provided they we DUNLOP wellies with the ribs up the front and on the ancles.

It would make a lot of sense in variably friable surfaces.
I've forgotten most of my Soil Science lectures from many years ago, but you may be very sure that it's a vastly more complex issue than 'Dirt' ....

I went on a mates CR500 in his local farmers field where he had a small track. I must have been around 50. Had Arm pump after just 5 mins and hit one of the invisible mole hills he told me about. Sadly the back end went sideways and so did I. Fortunately nothing broken except my pride. Lol

A 500 two stroke….what could possibly go wrong….I had a YZ465 when I was young and daft. One of my not so good ideas when the brains and balls were not correctly wired up. Im now more sensible and know it would only hurt!

I always wanted a go on one of the maico 700s. I know it would be my last go on anything but still.

I have a french friend who owned a road legal cr500 in supermoto trim with intermediate slicks on etc. He's not got it now but is still suitably off his box.
I met him originally because we both own kawasaki 750 turbo's, which is about the closest to a road legal 2 stroke in power delivery you could get, except the lunacy happens at higher speeds.
Still have the kawasaki's though they're getting restorable and collectable now, which always spoils the fun a little and brings out the gerald's in chunky sweater types to argue over if they're painted the correct shade of red etc.

Screwdriver, new crank seals and usual stuff, fresh boots because they'll be like rock hard like nails and gone off if its been laid up for a few years, take it easy at first because you probably have forgot a little how rabid they are, it might wind back the clock for you a bit I hope! I gotta do the same with my bimota yb8, because finally its old enough to legally re-register here via the classic registation route.
