I've been buying most of my hook-up wire from AliExpress - mostly 22-28AWG PTFE insulated at a fraction the price of the likes Farnell/RS etc. The only issue is that even at 25m lengths, it doesn't come on reels, not so bad just snipping the odd bit off but not good on the wire stripping machine.


Had a search for a 3D-printable reel - this one looked good but the clipping together design was poor, the reel would tend to part as the wire was wound on.


Decided to design my own (though I copied the slot and hole design) - the clip design is much better being secure when assembled but when the wire is wound on the clips are forced together meaning it can't be pulled apart. I added a label area and slots for viewing remaining wire.

Dividers for IKEA "Glis" storage tubs.

I have 150 of them now (at £2 for 3), for my spare "bits", but they are too large for some things - like washers - so decided to split them into compartments.

Surprisingly easy to model - think they were ?44x110? mm, extruded at a 5° taper.
10mm fillet around the edges.
Split in half.
Then each half shelled to 1.2mm thickness.


First full project I've done in FreeCad. It's not quite as intuitive as fusion, but that might just be familiarity.
FC V1.1 is a mahoosive improvement on the earlier versions, it's starting to reach the utility of the commercial CAD stuff

- plus, it's *free*.


Printed in clear PETG, because it's the only PETG I have at the moment, not for aesthetics, although it *does* look nice even if I say so myself.

Finally coming to an end on the white chess pieces...what with work and numerous unexplainable failures with various pieces, the knight and 4 pawns printed successfully last night. 4 more pawns printing now then switch to the red filament and start again, but atleast I know I've tweaked every file and the print settings to the point they all print now so the red should be simple

Files were purchased on cults3d for around a fiver I think, something along the line of thone legends chess set. My flash forge flat wouldn't print them on standard settings though so ended up bumping the speeds up as high as they would go, layer height was 0.15, slim tree supports with a 0.12 interface, and no rafts

I would imagine most of that costume is zote foam that has been heat formed to keep the weight down. You could 3d print it if you had a decent set of CAD models.

Talking about CAD models . My son and his brother in law have taken a unit for a year to see how things go. They have asked me to print some jigs.




I thought it better to try and buy some but I contacted this guy and he says he only provides the printed products . Not financial viable as he is in OZ so I looked around his site to see whats available and the angles seem very small.

Apart from that how would I add the squares on the outside of the rounds. I think it would help my fusion learning to have a specific product/thing to make.

A little tricky to explain in a message but I would set up a parametric model with a set of parameters so that you could
Automatically change the model to whatever angles, diameters required. Use YouTube to search for videos on how to utilise parameters.

For the square I would guess in basic terms you’d have a sketch with a circle defined, that would be extruded. You’d then have another plane that would be on offset of the original. Use another sketch to define the square. Extrude the square making sure it is a separate body and then union trim them together. This is a very abridged version.

Why do you need a square ? Print a notch and a few holes along the vertical and instead of using raised letters simply print in a cut through message such as angle or pipe size . If you print them in a rubbery material you could make this vertical line a hinge point and have a simple clip over a lug on the open side to nip it in place . Drawing the line on the pipe is easy using a fine point sharpie ,if you roll the pipe to a planed thickness of wood and then use the fine marker at the edge of the wood & metal contact point without disturbing the pipe till it is done .


Perhaps print the item as the open part like my sketch but vertical from the front curved edges adding supports where required
