I think the blow torch is just popping the surface bubbles to give a shiny finish between pour layers, not degassing the bulk volume as such.

It does in that video but I've seen people using it on others. As I said I don't really know it was just perhaps something to try, some seem to use the blowtorch on the bucket pre pour, others have special things they stick in or the buckets in to help degas.

Well that's the flat end of the rail track anvil sorted. Bit of a polish to clean up the cutter marks, and a flick of the flap wheel to chamfer the sharp edges out and it's good to go.

I got it sorted as soon as it was here for exactly that reason. 'Next week' somehow seems to become a year or two later before you realise it.

Just demoulded the 85 shore one I poured last night and it has come out a lot better. It is tough but flexing without cracking.

85 shore on left 20 shore on right.

I managed to pull it over the 16mm ball, it was tough to do but didn't crack.
It seems to be working great so far, not squishing out when I clamp the flange but I think maybe a 50 shore might be a better compromise.

Just demoulded the 40 shore one I let sit for 5 mins before pouring and lot less bubbles in it so happy with that

Earlier I mixed the 40 and 85 shore as a test, it was ready for demoulding a lot faster, about 3 hrs compared to the 12 for the 40 shore but slower than the 85 shores 1hr.
It came out well but doesn't seem much stiffer than the 40 shore but maybe it will harden a bit over the next few hours.
I mixed it 4 parts 40 shore to 3 parts 85 shore, I think next I will reverse that or maybe even go 1 part 40 to 2 parts 85.

Anyway this is the result if the mix.

There are some, I didn't let it rest for long before pouring as I was unsure how long it would be pourable, the shore 40 is 4.5-5.5 mins, the 85 is 16-20 mins so the mix was unknown. I don't think it is going to matter too much as it seems pretty tough.
I have poured another this morning, 1:2 with the 2 being the 85, will see what that turns out like.

I know where to come when I have something that needs a bellow! Probably not economical for one offs, but good for a run. Your cnc mill could probably chomp out a mould fairly easily if designed in fusion?

Ha ha, I think between the cost of the acetal and the time it would only be worth it if you couldn't get something suitable elsewhere.

The 3d printer has been busy printing off a load of brackets. Last week ordered some precut 4020 extrusion through laziness and started assembling the frame.

Most of the electronic bits are on order as are the belts and pulleys etc.

It will become this eventually

For the sake of $30 to get the plans and STL files I thought it was worth a punt. I quite liked the electromagnet feature which allows me to cut brackets off an 8x4 half size sheet without having to trim it down to size before putting it in the plasma. Also can just be hung out of the way when not in use.

Interesting, their website says the parts are mostly available on amazon, I assume you need the plans to get the details. Was it easily available in UK?

I made a pair of these.

They are for wifey's Pop. It had no form of bonnet support at all. I don't know if that was down to the "popular" spec or if they had been removed. Anyway, they fit like this. I still have to make the hold up clips

I am not sure how long the polyurethane boots will last so I will make a few of them. The latest ones are quite hard to get out of the mould and need pressed out. Previously I was using the vice in the garage but it was awkward trying to hold two bits of box, the mould and the bolt for ejecting whilst tightening the vice so I decided to make a small press up , now I don't even have to go round to the garage
