Finally finished soundproofing and insulating the rear of the van so I've started refitting some of the trim.

The hardboard panel on the side door was way beyond rescuing so I used it a template for a new one:





And covered it with 4 way stretch carpet. First time I've attempted anything like this so I'm pretty happy with the result:

And I'm amazed at the difference all this soundproofing and insulation has made. The cab will get the same treatment in the fullness of time but already the van is much quieter to drive and be in and should be a lot warmer in autumn and winter.

It's not pretty but hopefully it'll be watertight.

Serious amount of respect to those guys who make welding aluminium easy and pretty!

All in all not displeased with my first real attempt at TIG welding some aluminium.

Mk2 made. One pipe went okay the second was a absolute sod, keep getting contamination and spent more time grinding out the weld but eventually got there.

And test fitted, it'll work but could be improved.

Knocked up an "Abba Superbike Stand" copy from mostly metal in my scrap pile, only had to buy the threaded bar and nuts. It works a treat and even better saved a good £100 vs buying one! Time to get the swingarm and linkage bearings replaced!

It's 100% not. Just a tiny splodge of dirt (I think some rocol from drilling the hole) that somehow escaped my cleaning but rather than stop immediately I persisted (after regrinding the tungsten) to try and weld the other sides. That was the mistake, once I ground it all out and cleaned everything thoroughly, let it all cool down and then stopped fannying about and hit it hard and fast it was okay.

Basically I started farting about being gentle when things started going badly.

Tightened up the 27mm hex and I think we’re good.

2, As you said I had some.
3, It was what was asked for,

Yew was tradition for setting the ties and wedges.

I could have done without having to mask up all 36 louvers but they don’t look bad.

I bought some small castors to make some retractable wheels for my welding/ grinding table as it was getting too heavy to wheel outside by picking one end of the table up. Unfortunately the thread was too short. So a couple of threaded sleeves appeared out of a bit of scrap bar and some spanner flats were filed on as I couldn't be bothered to set the mill up.
