Just as a quick thread diversion, Isinglass is a totally different product in America it seems. Used in auto upholstery, Isinglass is actually clear acrylic for soft top windows!

Highly unlikey to be an effective filtration media then! You could be there for years

More wood bothering today.

One of what will be a matching pair when I can summon up enough energy to turn the other one, a small bowl made of sapele sandwiched by ash. About 5" diameter and 3" deep, completely made from offcuts, I'm quite chuffed with this one.

After a long series of Christmas themed blasphemies I've managed to complete the stayer Len 200 restoration.
Now editing and apologizing for my sins

PS it works but it trips the breaker something is grounded it should be double insulated I can't understand why, it has a ground lead to the stator but I believe it was intended for a filter capacitor, it was connected to PE so I've rewired this way.
Next year when the new switch arrives with more time I'll check it again

Had a productive day and got my Record air filter mounted. A tad over engineered but it gave me an excuse to play with some unistrut

The rubber bobbins work well, don't get any noise/vibration transferred. Still need to route the mains cable properly, but that can wait till after Christmas!

After getting just shy of 100m of yellow 3 ore 1.5m cable and a load of 115v connections.

We made 14 115v extension cables.

I openly admit to being a beginner at wood turning and every day is the proverbial school day for me but considering I struggled with woodworking for many years I'm really enjoying it now.

I did the traditional Christmas thing, and fired up the mill.



Then some fiddly soldering.



Swapped the loose wires on my microscope for a nice 62GB connector. Need to work on the power supply next.

A small lever to replace the M6 grubscrew securing the flue control lever. The nickel plated lever gets rather hot, so rather than fannying around using the tool to alter it, or getting scorched fingers, the brass lever simply gives a cooler to touch option.

Mostly, a discharge trap door cutout for the sand muller, which will be furnished with a hasp and staple sort of arrangement soon enough.
Not an especially complicated sort of thing, but will need a bit of evolution 'on the hoof' so to speak.....

Not overly keen on repurposing household furniture for workshop use but at a fiver from the charity shop, this will do. (British Heart Foundation, marked down from £10 so I happily paid full price.) Now have storage for all my grinding jigs and some of the numerous tins of wood finish:

Not overly keen on repurposing household furniture for workshop use but at a fiver from the charity shop, this will do.

I've got quite a lot of old kitchen units and similar in my shed, they're OK for some things but the sizes aren't always that much use. I removed and threw out quite a lot of the doors from them, then regretted as stuff gets covered in dust without them, which is the big advantage over stuff like Dexion and the like. But right now I could do with fewer old bits of kitchen and more proper racking.

I have old kitchen cupboard units in the garage, great size for storage. However I noticed today the chipboard shelves are starting to sag due to dampness, having been in there for 4.5 years.

Not finished yet but started on a canopy / cover for the generator.

Since I've got an abundance of pallet racking uprights some slightly bent I thought rather than waste good steel I'd use those. Some 100x50 box (again slightly bend from abuse as fork extensions) is a perfect fit inside.

Welded underneath they also serve as risers so the pallet forks can get underneath for moving it.

Now to go raiding the pile for some more pallet racking to cut down to size. Then find something to cover it all over.

Got the dust collection "shroud" sorted on the mitre saw today. It's essentially a few offcuts of 1/2" ply that encloses the back of the fence, and it's easily removed for the very rare occasions when I make an angled cut:



And as I didn't have a suitable fitting to connect the shop vac to I turned one from an offcut of pine:

Drilled the back out with a 35mm Forstner bit, glued in the fitting, hose connected, job done.




Last task is to obtain a Y connector so I can connect a hose to the existing dust port behind the blade then it's no more dust covered surfaces and happy lungs!
