Made another set of "racing" knitting needles for wifey, 4mm this time. I don't know how these will wear as they are pultrusion tube not wound.

This is the wear she has inflicted on a pair of commercial (allegedly)carbon fibre needles. This did not take that long.

Today i made my milling machine knee go up and down again.

It's been seizing up the last few times i used it mainly due to lack of lube and gunge building up on the slideways.
Something went and the handle would turn freely but no up and down.

Looking underneath the bevel gear was turning but the screw to raise it wasn't.
Seemed to be a pressed in bit for the keyway that must have been turning.

Welded it together

Cleaned up all slideways and put it together.
Seems to work ok now.

I made or rather remade a VW samba picture on a rock i was given, it did have a picture on but it was peeling off so i re did it like a rusty old bus which i think looks better.

I have Hydra-Clamps and Rod cylinder seals on order but not yet arrived, so I decided to tick off one more 'get round to it one day' jobs on the JCB-3CX.

The cab doors were both originally equipped with 'door stays' allowing the door to be fixed a few inches open to get a bit more ventilation while working. Near side was present but off side has gone missing. Just an 8" length of 1/4" bar screwed into a ball joint at the tethered end, and a special button fitting that engages with the door lock at the other. Zero dealer stock and anyway listed at £24 plus VAT - so make one !

6 mm ball joint ordered on eBay (£2.99) - 1/4" bar from stock as was a bar end to make the button. Simple turning and threading job had the bits ready before the ebay delivery - which was today.

I glass blasted the parts and cold blued them with 'Perma Blue' and I was impressed with the finish it gave me - not used it before - I've had it on the shelf for a while having bought it on impulse !

All bits Loctited this morning and I've just fitted them - seem to work OK and indistinguishable from the originals

In the 'parked' state the stay sits on a little clip holding it out of the way - clip was missing - also unobtainable - so I 3D printed one.

How was the steel sheet bent along the radius? MIG welding?

The sheet, I think you are referring to is the inner skin of the tank. It was bent at about 40mm spacing on a press brake at a predefined angle. I didn't do the bending, though I did help hold and push it in. The welding is via mig and Francesca (Fronius TPS320i) did the welding using .8mm 316L with 98 gas (98 % argon 2% Co2). Francesca has PMC and LSC and I think both are operating. I say think as I don't know what the difference is without them operating. When I got Francesca she had it all there, one of the Fronius guys set it up and said try that, it welded ok so I have left it and never played with it. AS I progress I will take some more pics and post them.

You've lost me there... bolt action, what was asked for.
The only twist mechanisms that seem to fail are the 7mm slimline ones. I don't tend to use them.

Same thing you call bolt action I called click locks yep the slim line 7 mm are starting to show wear after seven years of daily use and rotate under the slightest pressure .
Can't really grumble , looking forward to using some donated spalted beech to make a lot of new ones for friends if it turns out to be suitable ( ripe / rotten in places and riddled with worm and bug tunnels )
Cut up a slab of the beech 4x16 x 16 " ish earlier today into 3/4 inch square blanks by 16" long along the grain . Struggling to find any sound turnable wood from it at present . Got plenty more to play with over then next week or so .
I baked what I cut at 120 oC inthe oven for three hours to kill off the spalt causing spores and any eggs of creepies still in the blanks .

A pallet breaker. I think I've found a handy local supply so I thought it was finally worth making one.

All made from bits found in the garage, A-Team style.

40mm scaffold pole. I ground off the galv. The end was coped as I already had a nice tool to use. My nearest holesaw was 38mm though, so I might as well have just used the grinder from the start as it all needed opening out. The steel seems really nice to cut, Google suggests it is EN39.

Excuse the mess. This is getting sorted soon/

The prongs are 10mm bar, I think 60mm wide. The gap between the two is a little wider than two inches.
Stick welded at 129 amps using my Sherman/Jasic welder. 3.2mm 6013.

Didn't get the galv off the inside and it shows. Have to be careful.

I didn't quite get the handle angle right. It is a little too upright. The tool is very heavy but strong, my back will wear out before the tool does. It works very well and dismantles the pallets quietly and effortlessly. Damage to the wood is much reduced should I want to use it for something other than fuel.

I can still use the other end to break ratchets, sockets and breaker bars so that's a win too.

A huge puddle of torch coolant on the floor, followed by a mound of blue soggy sawdust... Had to pull the cooler out and pull it to bits looking for the leak (a hose pushed off its spigot, remedy the ClampTite-alike)

Good job. Could you pie cut near the bottom of the handle and weld up to get a better handle angle if it's a little out?

It's fine as it is, really. I had a chance to correct it after tacking up and testing for ergonomics but couldn't be arsed then, so there's no hope now.

I haven’t decided on a colour yet I’m stuck between Java green and Signal red.

I have added some legs to the tool tray and stops to the lid so the latches can lock down tight though.

We used a Rollpacker to dismantle the pallets at work, only good for firewood after.

Apparently not. Although this came via a local tractor factors so perhaps they were meant to do it.
