It is a very hard thing to do, price a job. Even after many years I find it hard. What I tend to do is think how long it will take and then double it, sometimes that still isn't enough but mostly it is. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose but even when you lose it is much less than you would have if you had quoted the time you initially thought.

Do you ( or other guys ) ever consider a ratio of labour rate per unit of materials used & also specifically purchased for the job ?

Architects , planning offices , builders , insurance assessors etc. seem to use cost of so much per square or cubic metre as it takes too long to do a proper full calculation of a lot of job/s

Don't think that would work for me, too many variables, some tiny jobs with little material take days, some jobs with lots of material can be done in an hour.

Needed some cup holders for the VW T4 so i used an off cut of 6 x 2 wood drilled 2 big holes in and shaped it to fit in the dash, a quick spray glue and stretch carpet and it is all good.

Apart from messing about with clay I did a little more on the tig torch wheel.

Tomorrow will try to get the button and potentiometer slots cut then I can trim it down to be a nice shape.

Today I made a c spanner to try and split a fancy tumbler used for cleaning jewellery.

320mm diameter and made out of a 13mm thick, sheet pile offcut.
I cut the rough shape freehand with my plasma.

Do you like my fancy water table?

Then cleaned it up with a grinder, drilled an eight mm hole for a pin before tig welding on a handle
The spanner fits ok but the tumbler is not playing ball.

It is supposed to screw apart but I think the threads have picked up.
It moves but only a few mm.
I need to have another look at it.

Hack bender for a few dozen lamp brackets.

I think they are for holding up lamp shades. Basically tent pegs with a threaded end. Was given one and asked to make many. Then dunked in cold blue to knock off the shine.

Only complication being that's's a 3/16ths thread on a 4mm rod. The 4mm thread just looked wrong. Too thin. Originals were 3/16" but I couldn't find any of that in a hurry.

There is another one, which I should be able to take apart for a look.
This one is used wet (the other dry) and you are supposed to be able to screw them to adjust the gap to allow the fluid to drain at a set rate and tighten the running tolerance to account for wear.
The other is free.
I think the cleaning fluid might have caused this one to seize.

May I offer this suggestion ? :- ( I'm going to any way )
Get a bit of square bar say 3 inches long grind off 2 " of one edge so the rods can be slipped in and tack weld it to the angle iron so it acts like an end stop & a clamping tube. That way so long as all your rods are the same length initially all you have to do is slide a rod in and then bend it ...no faffing about with a ruler or will the rod move unless clamped ? Perhaps try it with the square bar / end stop clamped in place before tack welding to see if it works ?

Quite busy days
On Friday night I've had the horrible notice of my uncle (suicide)
And we got to told about that to my mom (he was the brother) , you all might understand the delicate and understandable difficult of telling her about.
On Saturday I've had to tell about that to the neighborhood to prevent them to ask about that to my mother as she's truly proven for what unfortunately happened.
In the morning I've tested and played little bit with the die grinder I've recently acquired.
So being satisfied of it and to try to take my mind away from the reality I've proceed to replace it's power cord in the evening.
Used 4 metres of 2x1.5mm² H05VV-F cable , applied heat shrink tubing as strain relief on the plug side (CEE Blue plug ).
Then discovered that the die grinder wiring is little bit more sophisticated than expected, so has to cut and solder the connections , but once done I've discovered that there wasn't enough room to close the die grinder plastic shell .
So on Sunday I've bought spade terminals and crimped as the original wiring and now it works.
Today I went to the funeral , and won the pain , didn't even cry .
Maybe because I can't accept the way he passed away.
Maybe because of the pains I've encountered the last months, or maybe just for proud , trying to be strong and to transmit courage to my family and relates, with a fake smile in the face .
Then I went to work to say that I will restart tomorrow and that I would like that the day will like everyday as another one ,like if nothing happens.
Then spent the evening with my family.
