Another mini excavator bucket in production
This time I'm completely fabricating it from zero.
Cut the sides from 6mm sheet using the plasma cutter .
Welded together to make them identical using a grinder.
This evening hopefully I'll have ground them up and bent the bottom plate .
It's a small 5 or 6" bucket i still have to know the width of it.
Quick change from the shelf.

A very small amount will dissolve but really not of consequence. The shell as you call it is unlikely to stay intact and can be skimmed off with the oxide dross. Are you using a cover flux?

I have about 5kg of old taps and fittings, old gas regulator and about 1kg of swarf. The taps were chromed which may be a problem, would I be left with a chrome /nickel shell to fish out, or would it disolve into the melt?

I doubt I can achive that level of detail but would be interesting to try. The picture would suit electro growing if you start with a negative 3d print?

What's electro growing and can you do it with brass?

Its a copper plating process, but it can be converted to brass if followed with zinc plating and heat.

Short video under microscope. Somone has suggested it is shrinkage porosity rather than hydrogen bubbling - that explains the centre hollow. It seems to be a problem with high sillicon casting alloys.

Ground the shape, its not pretty but theres reasonably good transfer of blue from insert to the pocket sides so Im happy with it.

It's for work .
Today I've done only metal fabrication.
I'm also repairing a small concrete mixer bath .
Welded an F clamp , made two of them work again (seized screw) using the propane axe (it's cool to call a cutting torch this way), and little bit of elbow grease to move the screw.
Then greased the screws to keep them moving
I've welded all the evening.
Hopefully hopefully , my work is taking the right direction.
Employers are happy with my welds .
And I'm making progress with the mig welder.
Again as I've said the other day .
Let's see how it goes.

Well , I've dreamed for years and years to work in this sector .
Those two days were not perfect but way better than the last week or two.
Let's see how it goes , I would not take a bad decision in a hurry.

Inside welds on the picture of the bench are not mine (boss done them) all the others are mine.
Concrete mixer repaired , thin rusty , painted and covered with concrete frame with galvanized steel reinforcement ,mig welded vertical downhill .
I don't know if are acceptable .

Today i made a lowly poker, but with my first ever rams head top to it. Done at Rich maynards forge at Much Hadham hertfordshire (see post on metalworking attractions) Im well pleased with how this turned out.

Decided to make a start on the one piece pegs today.
Underside profile done.

Then the upper face.

Got the second one done and that is as far as I got today, a few pics.

Made a 'hi-fi' shelf. I used shellac which I wiped on. I was going to go for a dark finish similar to the bookshelf. I am still experimenting with dark finishes on pine. I used ruby dewaxed shellac for this, but it turned out pretty darn light when I appled it with a rag. The antenna arrangement is temporary.

I also nee d proper speakers, and likely a pair of shelves for them.

I've a pair of KEF C10 I'd part with. They're black though.

Having said that I am currently having to do some real work

Regarding the pegs, once completed this will be the first full set, the previous set I only (sort of) finished one. It is currently on my Africa Twin, one side OEM the other custom Thankfully you only see one side at a time.

Finished just in time, bleeding screaming gale and the rain is starting.

Welded a leg on.

Made a couple of brackets and bolted them to the original table to hold the extension.

If he doesn't need the extension he just lifts it out of the brackets and stows it away some place.
