Started to mix up fire clay and perlite to line this cylinder. It will get a coating of fire clay on top with a spiral groove for the heating elements to sit in.

Gloves didnt really last so Ive now got a mildly irritating amount of clay wedged up between my finger and the nail that doesnt want to come out.

Finally decided, (it's been on my list for ages), to make a new nut for the toolpost, so that I can change tool height/position without reaching for the spanner. It's no work of art, but it's functional.

Quick electrical test. 2.5kw, as expected. Now to decide how to configure it. The element seems a bit short at 1600mm. I want a diameter about 145mm, gives circ. of 455mm, 3.5 turns around the crucible. Id like double that. I have two elements, and I wouldnt say no to double the power. Im limited by being on a 16A MCB in the shed

15 metres of valley gutter in 4 sections. Press brake getting some use recently which is good, I've hardly touched the thing since I re tooled it!

And this is what it looks like now fitted. All brackets are alloy and welded to it for (hopefully) a maintenance free lifetime

Did you stop the print process to install the magnets?

Yes. More specifically, I set it up to automatically pause the print when it got to the level where I wanted to install the magnets. I superglued them in (to make sure they didn't jump up and attach themselves to the extruder or something like that) and then put some pritt stick over the top to help the PETG stick to the magnets. I've no idea whether any of that was necessary though. I suspect the printer was treating it as a bridge, so adhesion to the magnets was probably unnecessary.

Made another couple of rack plates today and tested out the drum burnisher in the process.

Before, just off the plasma.

Run over with the burnisher and then bent the edges and countersunk the holes. Will likely take them to be powder coated, would have like clear anodised but there is no one reliable around here and doing DIY looks to be hit or miss.
Not sure whether to get it silver or satin black.

This week I'm putting in the flood defences, for the back shed.

Last year, it got dug out 70 cms, then 30 cms of hard core went in, then insulation, then 15 cms of concrete. 75 square meter back shed.

Then 5 days later it became a paddling pool.

The DPM had filled up from behind, and being unsupported, let in the ground water.

So this week I'm bringing up the sides, to hold the DPM in place.

Should keep me busy.

Well, frankly, if after this weeks work if it floods again, I'll just bring the floor up to the same level, and trim the beams so I don't have to duck.

Is the DPM one big, continuous sheet with no holes and pleated at the corners? Any holes you're fooked.

Is the ground higher externally?

You could glass fibre the whole area...

I put a DPM, under the 40 mm polystyrène insulation, and a second one above, double DPM.

All complete sheets, we're not that many meters higher than the local river, which is small, but when masses of surface water sinks into the ground, its got nowhere to go to, i could dig drainage ditches everywhere, but there's nowhere for it to drain, I've raised alot of floors, for this reason, but when we bought the Longère, the back had an earth floor, and at six foot, I don't fit under, without crouching.

Hence the excavation and double DPM. The water came round the edge of the DPM and pushed it over, as it was only pinned to thé walls temporarily.

We'll see.

Fitting on air compressor was leaking because of a slight bodge I may have done a while ago shoving the wrong fitting in a few thread with a load of sealant whoops

Anyway good project for the lathe and used some screw cutting for a project for the first time and was working well cutting 18 TPI threads for this 5/8 UNF which I got from my Zeus book.

Cut a barb for the hose the other end then drilled through and internal chamfer to direct the air better I hope

Parted off..

And my threads fit ! , Not the cleanest or tightesr but screw in nice and a bit of sealant will hopefully keep the air in and stop trigging my compressor to boot up at night
