What length is that 8mm bar? I couldnt see any so instead bought some carbide blanks and plan to make one up. The blanks are quite short though.

I was using my 12 and it was stuggling with 85mm deep. Its 150mm long, half is in the tool post.
At 25mm I swapped the 20mm bar - this never cut properly before, this time it works not too bad.

The 8mm bar i think is about 120mm long. It's a Mitsubishi solid carbide bar and it constantly surprises me as to what it can do. The sleeve material is quite hard and tough, a bit like stainless, but harder, and it seems to work harden too. But yeah... 70mm+ stickout, 8D-9D, and it was still happy taking 0.1mm cuts.

I like my Korloy STFCL bar too. I've had it cutting happy at 7D. Left hand or right hand doesn't bother me in the slightest, I just need to plug a minus into the DRO lol

I will upgrade that cheapy 12mm bar at some point, it's truly terrible, even with razor sharp polished inserts.

I have a 32mm bar and nothing in between 16 to 32, so maybe I need a 25mm at some point too...

I'm all about the solid carbide bar hype though. I know good quality steel bars are fine too, but you can definitely push carbide deeper

fancy one that, I have a proper tyre machine for car / van tyres etc. Never tried a bike tyre on it though, might need to adapt it to get clearance for the discs? Cheap enough to buy, 200 euros, needed a wee bit of repair to the pneumatic kit (cylinder and valves had a few leaks) but they were soon sorted, cost some o rings. Problem is that I don't really have the space for it here as it's only used a few times a year, so it's up at the farm, and I can't be bothered to go there just for a wee tractor tyre, so made a wee / simple bead breaker for the workshop, and then just handball the tyre back on with levers...

Yep, the wee Mitsubishi bar is a cracker, hope I don't snap the one I kept

Steel bars can do well but carbide are better UNLESS you are talking anti-vibe, these things are amazing

Monday, after I finished the last few jobs on the roller system, I measured up for a hopper.

Drew it up on Monday night, worked out the material I needed and that arrived today. Had to go with one length of heavier wall box as I needed 6 but only 5 in stock and next lot due in January

Anyway here is the hopper model.

Arranged the parts for cutting.

And the 5 sheets of 6mm 5083 as they are now.

Cut a 500mm x 500mm x 12mm 5083, first time I have cut 12mm on the Jasic I think, the Tec Arc could be a hit or miss but the Jasic did it ok. I think a bit of fine tuning required with regards the feed and cut height as the edge is a wee bit more hairy than normal but the bevel is only very slight so happy with that.

Oh, interesting.
I have used hammers, as do Kwick Fit. Most times the keep the bead seal.

How can you do it with adjustable please?

Leave the rim clamped to the tyre fitting machine then open the jaws of the adjustable to fit over the damaged section and lever as required . Way quicker and easier than a hammer

Finished spindle register dead on 52.00mm. The test peice was a tight fit, zero play and wouldnt rotate when fully in but came out ok. Polished with p800 until it was a sensible fit.

Didnt get a photo of drilling but I had it on angle plate using the Aldi/Lidl F clamps. There was lots of swearing as the handles have no grip, the rubber does not like oily hands, they are crap! I have drilled the handles for a helper bar.

The demo shop is still not open.
I found 2 old taps in one of my brass boxes they are chrome plated so not good.
Also need the final coats of urethane, rubbered black paint for the inside and a bucket to hold the ice.

The project was a fail but I won myself, I had fun that' matters to me in these times.

I made my garage a bit brighter.


Originally I only had one 5' fluorescent fitting at the far end which wasn't nearly bright enough, here's three pictures of my lathe taken with the same camera settings to show how big a difference it makes. First one is the new lights, second one is the just the articulating work light and the last one the lamp is off, just lit by the old fluorescent.




I ran out of 1.5mm T&E so the fittings are wired to the switch and then the switch is on a bit of flex for now, I'll do it properly later, probably end up being next year.

Filled a bag of swarf

It was suggested that ER threads should be slightly loose so that it doesnt influence the collet. Standard would have measured 50.32mm. I took a few extra cuts until it felt right, measures 50.28mm.
