Went through the last batch of lobster gauges in record time, not sure why all the fishermen have taken to throwing the gauges over the side instead of the undersized lobsters but who am I to argue
Made up a new batch today, all spot on 87mm or at least as accurate as I can measure, may be a few 1/1000ths of a mm +/- but I suspect that won't matter


Also made up some stainless knife covers for the 3/4 tonne haulers, I think it will work out cheaper than filling up worn ones with the tig and grinding flat again, I made 5 but two have already gone.

Not sure what’s got into them! All the ones I posted up last week have gone too. Had a call for more today.

I have been there myself when I was a fisherman, the other common one was when you were gutting the fish and you went to throw the guts away but the knife sometimes went with them

They still could lose them but they would also lose their hands. Never have anything hanging loose when in amongst fishing gear, I have seen a few people hauled over the side with hood drawstrings tickling into gear as it is going away.

Good evening @Hood. Feed rate is 1270mm/min at 65 amps. I have slow down a bit to 90% of the book spec for the nitrogen as that gas, nitrogen seems to be cooler and such requires a slower speed. I did take a photo,but the pics doesn't do the edge finish any justice, however it is noticeably much better than with compressed air. You mat ask why 65amps, well Hypertherm make nozzles for 65amp then the next size up is 125 (for their 'Hi amp' torches), so there is little choice for me. I haven't tried cutting at 125 amps where the travel speed is 3000mm/min. Would it work, absolutely yes, is there a need, not that pressed for time, will it happen in the future, if I have much more to do I would have to run some test cuts to see if the cut quality is good or any better and go from there

Turning a dinse 35-50 plug from 18mm hex, resulting in curly brass stringers. Tool angle is somewhere around 45 degrees 5mm off diameter at 600rpm to get that, with a slow feed.

There's lots of houses still with no roofing felt at all under the tiles. In principle, if the tiles are good, there should be no need for the membrane. The only time it is really useful is when it blows a hooly and drives the water upwards. Keep an eye on it and make sure the loft is well ventilated, so if some damp comes in, it will dry quickly.

Redoing it properly, well beyond my ability. I asked neighbour, they had theirs redone a few years back costing £8000. The roofer cocked it up and had to go back twice. Im not convinced that we need to get a professional in yet.

Im thinking to attach a new sheet underneath the joists so that any water gets funneled into a container, to see how much, if any, is leaking past the tiles.

Thanks Henry, not likely I could justify using nitrogen but always interesting to see different things.

Camera tripod mounting. 3D printed Velbon connector, Titanium bar (!), 3D printed soft rubber mounting plate.

Quite important it makes a firm, strong connection and the through bolt sandwiches the lot.

Didn't have a spare mounting screw so drilled out a 1/4 20 bolt and bent some welding rod through it.

Works as it should.

Today I made Blackberry Jam and Elderberry Syrup. Yesterday I watched a colleague 'invent' a new tool..."4-inch-Grinder-on-a-broomhandle" to slice a rounded-off bolt head whilst removing the wings from a Gulfstream Bizjet. Not the safest tool I've ever seen.

Here's the problem:
There's a HV cable assembly that needs changing on a lot of MB Hybrid vehicles, the cable runs from a socket on top of the gearbox, on the bell housing, across the top of the gearbox, onto the body and then to the NSR of the vehicle. Even with the rear of the gearbox dropped as far as possible, there is no room to get 'hands on' with the plug, it's just possible to remove it's protective shroud, removing the plug is easy once the E10 bolt is released.

I've done about six so far with another ten or so booked in for the next couple of weeks, I've been 'steering' the plug with a combination of twisting the cables and pushing with a couple of long extensions on the E10 bolt. A better method was needed.

A lot of practice required, especially fillet and dissimilar thickness materials. Overall I'm happy with the design, well until it's first test on Monday, I probably need to make more of them to practice the welds. Only one touch-down though.
Also, it's not fully deburred in the photos above, I did a lot more cleaning up around the business end to ensure no potential for damaging cable insulation.

It's a bit of a niche item admittedly and it's a practice piece that has some use, not just covering plate up with filler.

Some 'wood bothering'..! First bit of woodturning I've done in ages; rather than strain my elbows (bloody tennis elbow...) with big bowls I thought I'd work on my normally absent finesse with a small sycamore offset winged bowl... and, for once, no skinned or bruised knuckles!
