Unloaded the EWM and Argon cylinder from the van this morning and when putting the cylinder in the corner I noticed the folding sack truck that I had broken trying to lift a lump of steel round to the back door of the workshop. Not surprising it snapped I suppose as the steel was 10" dia and 500mm long so probably the best part of 200kg

Anyway I did a quick measure and then cut a bit of 5mm aluminium on the plasma.

Welded it to the bottom of the broken aluminium platform, well I say Aluminium, it had more muck in it than anything else and wasn't the most pleasant to weld.

All done and should last a wee while more, well as long as I don't try and lift a lump of steel again

Decided to put a brass offcut given to me by my lathe lecturer to use to make a better fitting and nicer looking replacement for my pocket sized king dick 0 adjustable project that I made a month ago , see the old one in mild steel in my palm

The wp20-f torch from amazon. Removed the incorrect gas and water fittings, made up new ones, this time M6 for the gas and power, silver soldered them back on. Took far more heat than it should, made me wonder if I had a bad rod.

I needed a colour changing LED bulb for an old bulkhead light fighting so i made one from an off cut off LED of RGBW smd 5050 self adhesive lighting wrapped around a bit of ABS waste pipe, it works quite well.

The calculation for crank seem out as well. Pedal travel to long for short legs, reducing crank throw will sort that but brings other problems

Is anything possible at the pedal end? If the pedal is moved closer to its pivot or the link rod moved further from the pivot, the pedal travel distance is reduced at the expense of more muscle effort (less leverage).

It will probably be fine but I'd test that doesnt get melty after an hour. Leds can put out some heat and that is concentrating it to a small surface area.

Cut out a sheet for mouting fan. Ive marked oug the other side to bend in a box and will it it up, so that I can make a round pipe adaptor. Large holesaw was rubbish so used a 6mm burr to do the inside. I have spinters!

New network cable arrived so fit that, ran it through the loft for neatness. It used to run under carpet but I didnt like that, removed for new carpet.
Found we may have a problem with the roof

Rest of the black sheet is ok. Doesnt appear wet, but we have had dry weather.

I wonder if aluminium tube (aluminium scaffold tube offcut) would sink the heat better. Is it necessary for it to be non-conductive?

There's lots of houses still with no roofing felt at all under the tiles. In principle, if the tiles are good, there should be no need for the membrane. The only time it is really useful is when it blows a hooly and drives the water upwards. Keep an eye on it and make sure the loft is well ventilated, so if some damp comes in, it will dry quickly.

Had a play with some 10mm 5083 alli plate. Now using the nitrogen generator for the gas through the plasma

I nested the components on the sheet, my first attempt and all seemed to go OK. Almost feel like i know what I am doing now

Yesterday’s effort! Welding end plates onto 14inch beams..a slow job they were taking 30 odd 3.2mm rods each plate.
Now I’ve got the big mig to play with I think the next batch are going to be a lot faster

It could not come fast enough
(Credit goes to Bob for supplying and fizzes bunch for delivering!) I saved one beam to try it on and I went from 1 hour and 20 each to 16 mins, knocks a few hours off the time sheet but better for my customer and my mental health!

Little jobsite power distribution box rack
Not pretty , not the best but it would work .
The idea born many months ago but didn't ever had the need for it till last week when my family construction company refused to use the big three phase one I built maybe 3 years ago.
So I've used some 18mm rebars saved from an old stove we demo.
Then discovered it's actually good steel and not just mild steel because it will snap if not heated to glow red temperature.
It fractures like cast iron (same break pattern)
So I believe it's actually a nice material to make knives , chisels, and pry bars ,I have a lot of them.
It appears to have a good amount of carbon .

Anyway I still have to grind the edges and paint it.
I didn't even take measurements to make it ,it's all free hand and eyeball fabricated.

Ps I made it heavy so it won't tilt over

Finished machining a dozen collet blanks for my capstan lathe. These are 85mm by 35mm reduced to 22mm at the narrow point and bored out to 16mm. Kept the Myford busy!

Went through the last batch of lobster gauges in record time, not sure why all the fishermen have taken to throwing the gauges over the side instead of the undersized lobsters but who am I to argue
Made up a new batch today, all spot on 87mm or at least as accurate as I can measure, may be a few 1/1000ths of a mm +/- but I suspect that won't matter


Also made up some stainless knife covers for the 3/4 tonne haulers, I think it will work out cheaper than filling up worn ones with the tig and grinding flat again, I made 5 but two have already gone.

I have been there myself when I was a fisherman, the other common one was when you were gutting the fish and you went to throw the guts away but the knife sometimes went with them
