Good evening @Hood. No ballast, had a visit from the owner yesterday, a progress inspection and he informed me that it will hold 12 bodies and some beer, expected weight is then about 4.5t. It will have a 30hp single engine and does about 6 - 8 kts.

Is that going to be a sort of pontoon pic-nic catamaran boat?

Yes, is the short answer. Was also informed yesterday that they have 4 of this stile of vessel and 22 'tinnies' in their fleet . That is a lot of boats to get damaged by the 'customers'

I’ve ended up with another shrinker stretcher body so I started on a new treadle stand for it this afternoon.

Good idea but none of my collets have sharp edges other than the swarf they came with in the slots that is cleaned out.
The ER32's were more used back when I was cutting with veg oil and some had a layer of hardened goo, but a soak in diesel got it all off clean. Most look like they were deburred with a hammer. Not pretty, particually the ER32's but they were all accurate once. I checked my MT3 chuck and that is just as far out! Its one I have not recut, still has chinese ground finish.
Need to put my spindle mount er32 in and check that, and a size Ive never used, 17mm.

Very tempted by the er40 sets, but I started looking up er50. In theory that can go upto 42mm, not that anywhere sells them.. but 2mm range so fewer needed.

One more thought .
Have you tried to do a run out test of the head stock shaft & collet nut body when the lathe is running fairly slow say 50 RPM , by using a roller bearing on a bar and slowly advance it to the diameter ...use a stick to brake the bearing a bit to see if it judders once the bearing gets driven .
Thinking behind that ..... you might not discover any movement if you're turning it by hand .

I spent a couple of hours making a somewhat pointless breather gadget for the fuel tank on my ‘steam punk’ hot rod, not sure if it achieves anything more than a simple plastic drain hose would, but I fancied a play with sand filling small bore tube to coil/bend it without it collapsing.

I’ve ordered a tiny little filter to go on the open end, which will probably dissolve in the ethanol fumes...

I really need a new high quality earth clamp. My Lincoln 200A one has burnt the braid out, the brass pads are in good Nick but I’m getting arcing. @Jim Davey do you sell any heavy duty spring clamps suitable for 200A?

I keep looking at the tweco ones but ESAB products have gone to crap

I don’t have a really good option on a 250 amp earth clamp. I find them all to be a bit cheesy these days. However, this “300 amp” works very well as a 200 amp clamp.

We are selling them for about £6.00 + VAT.

Over the last couple of days, I have made a set of trammels (14 inch sweep) and big (26 inches) clock face. The clock is not finished yet as I haven't decided on the numbers to use

A big mistake.

I'm in the process of correcting a inaccurately drilled hole for a shaft (behave at the back).

Needs to be drilled out to 14mm so I can shrink fit a length of cast iron bar (into a iron casting), so numpty here ordered a long 14mm drill bit, forgetting that the drill chuck max. is 13mm.

Having used a 33/64 bit to line everything up on the mill, and then drilled through to the bottom - looked as if it had been drilled from both sides. Then went to fit 14mm drill, it won't fit and I'm running round like a headless chicken to find a 14mm collet (R8) to drill it.

Not my brightest moment.

I'll try and get a photo of the bracket, to show the horror storey.



2nd photo shows just how off centre it was, and definitely drilled from both sides.

Next will be to turn down some 30mm cast iron bar and shrink fit.

Already a member of the club, excellent!! Turn the shank down to fit. It becomes a 'blacksmiths' drill

Just pulled out the chuck and put in a 14mm collet - I really must get round to labelling my collet rack so I can find the correct one easily, there again it only took me 4 years to sort and list, end mills/slot drills and taps and dies.

Apparently the above problem is fixed now, but the only way we can find out properly is if everyone on the forum buys something from us to test it... We need 100 orders before 5pm today or we'll never know.
