We looked into making a man riding cage for a customer before. Paperwork and certification would cost more than the job was worth!

Have you checked out the stuff that’s up on eBay? Lots of them are not certified. In fact they look very inadequate.

I need to be thinking of load of things to be making as I have now given up my full time job to go it alone

The problem is, if something happens whilst your product is in use it's you as the manufacturer that the HSE is going to come looking for.

If your making any item of lifting or man riding equipment for sale then it must meet the relevant standards.

Today, I produced LOADS of black plastic 'turnings' [jeez, that stuff really takes up space when you start turning it! ] in making this - an adaptor to fit the back of the linisher so that I can connect the shed vacuum to it and collect the grinding/sanding dust which gets everywhere........



to end up with this......



Not tested it yet, but it should help.

Now, on the the next half-completed project, the light box......

Yes there is a bar that goes through a bracket to lock the whole thing on to the forks. Will be a bolt on the gate once powder coated.

I was sent a faceplate by a kind member of this parish, the register needed re cutting to match the Drummond and threads were just a bit ragged and could do with been tidied up a bit. I bored out the centre and made a very close fitting insert which was pressed in and bonded with baring / shaft loctite like glue. Thread was re cut to 1" 12tpi to 3/4th depth with a 55 deg insert then finished off with a tap, the register was cut then turned the right way round to true up the face. It needed less than 1mm off the front and just the lightest of passes to true the edge, actually pointless to do the edge but why not when I am covering everything in black dust anyway. Finally the alignment rings were re cut at the original 1/2" spacing.


Nothing fancy but here is a picture before the lathe was cleaned.
