The PTFE skid plates are worn, hence the bow in the boom.

Yes I noticed that too, I've only just fitted it so it's a bit of a unknown quantity , I'm going through it as it needs to be right ,all new hoses etc .
The wear pads are worn as you say on the first extension more so towards the end of travel , I'm going to hold my breath and price some up

I've found a diesel Nissan Micra that's actually the first car I ever drove back when I was 14 .
My brother used to have a gasoline one ,he eventually sold it and the new owner still have it and it has over 600000km now .
That's the evidence that Nissan engines are really reliable

Definitely start with something cheap to maintain, reliable and will take some abuse. It'll give you a chance to gain experience, build up insurance no claims discount, and if you damage it, then you've not lost a lot

There are plenty of cheap cars here in Sardinia ,the major problem with them is that are mostly rally cars
Expecially for hillclimb races
205 GT Turbo 16's
Fiat Uno Turbo
Toyota Celica GT 4wd's

All cars like these
Complete with rollbars and slick tires
Some of them for 300 euros but they can't been driven on the road
Other cars are really expensive .
I've even found a cheap BMW M3 but I can't drive it because it has more than 70hp which is what I can drive for the first 2 years

Finally bought some connectors and put up my spring return cable reel;



They're "Neutrik PowerCON True1 TOP" and my first impression is they're the best mains connector ever made (Weird thing to get excited about, I know ). They're made for entertainment/stage equipment so they're very rugged (Nylon 66 30% glass reinforced), IP65 rated, UV resistant 16 amp locking connectors, like a commando plug but smaller and better. There's also a tiny steel ratchet pawl to stop the backcap coming loose and the cable terminal screws are Torx headed.


No more coiling cables up to put tools away and no more frustratingly short cables (It's an 8 meter reel). I got some panel mount plugs too so I could embed it right into the tool and do away with the tail completely but there's not enough room to fit that in this grinder, hopefully I can in my Weller station.

Festool do it too (Or used to, at least). I'm surprised it's not more common really but manufacturers don't really care about corded tools any more, it's all cordless these days.

Still do and they are extremely proprietary. You cannot buy replacements from anyone but Festool and when someone did try to market something compatible (so you could hook up your Makita to your Festool lead), I believe legal action ensued.

I am reasonably sure they are not PTFE as it is the wrong application for that plastic. I suspect they may be HDPE, which is relatively cheap as engineering plastics go and can be machined very easily with hand, wood and metalworking tools. The thick chopping boards from closed-down restaurants are also a good source.

There's no such thing What you might save on the purchase price, you'll spend MANY times over in getting/keeping her running properly. They ARE fun though...like a go-cart on steroids.

Well done on passing the test. My Sister-in-Law had a [petrol] Micra as a 'run around' and I had a drive of it - a surprising thing....a bit like the Tardis.

Have fun, but you're licence only means the start of your real driving experience(s).

Wish to see this quick detachable cord system on every tool .
