Yes I noticed that too, I've only just fitted it so it's a bit of a unknown quantity , I'm going through it as it needs to be right ,all new hoses etc .The PTFE skid plates are worn, hence the bow in the boom.
The wear pads are worn as you say on the first extension more so towards the end of travel , I'm going to hold my breath and price some up

They're made for entertainment/stage equipment so they're very rugged (Nylon 66 30% glass reinforced), IP65 rated, UV resistant 16 amp locking connectors, like a commando plug but smaller and better. There's also a tiny steel ratchet pawl to stop the backcap coming loose and the cable terminal screws are Torx headed.
