Not a recent one but was trawling some old images on the PC and this was something I made for the kids from some home milled Walnut and oak - must admit looking back I was quite pleased with this. Still going strong and I hope will become a family heirloom when I`m gone.

Got my handrails back from galvanising and powdercoating so fitted them last night.

Got to go back later in the week to resin in one of the anchor bolts and swap a couple of bolts for correct length, but otherwise pretty happy with it... customer seems happy anyway

I've always had a 'thing' about rocking horses, maybe some throwback to the fair grounds of my youth, but we got one hand carved for my daughter when she was a baby, in the Philippines 18 years ago. It has been carted back and forth across the world several times, and resides in my hallway now.

I made an axe sharp,,, maybe too sharp, I tried it on paper and sliced it with a razor clean cut.

Used a file to get small chips out then worked up sandpaper then onto a homemade wooden strop wheel I mounted on the bench grinder and use buffing compound gets it up to a mirror shine in no time.

still got a big chip at the bottom to get out somehow if anyone has suggestions then feel free but the axe works fine with it I think.

For some reason they omitted the tail, and we never noticed. We had given exacting instructions how we wanted it painted, but, predictably, they knew better and then had to repaint the whole horse.

Typical of most all workers over there: “but I thought....”

Got the tubes rolled today so welded them up.

The one I was most worried about welding on was the one at the slide door but it went fine.

All 3 welded on.

Side ones were welded inside and out, didn't really need it but just finished it off.

Then I got it fitted to the boat, one stripper box hooked up to see how it fitted.

Also chopped up another sheet of 5mm 5083 to make a table for a roller system. The one that is on is GRP with thin platic on top and is a bit flimsy, also this one is to be L shaped as the crewman at the moment has to balance the creel on a couple of fish boxes whilst cleaning and baiting them.

Got the bait box section welded up.

Then got that welded to the main section and that is as far as I got today.

It was just taken on a camping trip used to fell some small trees , chop up logs and make kindling that sort of stuff however a few uses in the workshop as well.

Had to reseat the handle as it slipped a bit during the firewood chopping so I just hammered the axe head back down and used some nails to expand the wood more.

I used the Metal studding to finish this item off.
The original stays were shot and broken.



The studs were fitted and adjusted up to hold the brass pressure vessel up in the right place.



Cut down, then the ends were finished off and all was clear coated.



Fitted onto a Reclaimed section of Oak floor.

I had enough of the reclaimed Oak floor to make the over Flask oven a better base.




Rough cut out to shape, so The joints were not going to be a weak area.
You can see the wood flaws and the joints full off floor wax.
The Knots can be filled. But the old wax is next to impossible to remove to a point were it will not effect the final finish.




The old hard varnish was scraped off, it has a horrible habit of "Flaking" into small sharp bits of shrapnel and getting into places.

Here is is finished and most of the wax removed.





Filled with Hard wax, This is a furniture wax, what is heated and puddled into the surface defects.
The trick is to mix and match the wax to belnd in the colour.
Here you can see the defects over filled.




This tool I made comes in useful for this type of work.
The blade will retain the heat and makes the wax fill I any pits as you go.




Then a smaller Cabinet scraper is used to de nib and polish the wax.
It also is a simple way to finish of the sanding sealer and French polish.



The wax scraped of the top, can be warmed and mixed with sawdust to make a nice filler.
The wood does make it more difficult to finish. Hence why @slim_boy_fat chisels comes to the rescue.



Finished.
Well Theye are more coats of French polish to go, with a few coats of clear wax.

The windings look like they've overheated. It may just be the varnish showing through the dust, of course.

After I took the picture, I blew off quite some dust.
Lots off electronics in the machine so they normally never overheat anymore.
It runs again so I hope for many years.
