I made someone very happy today

visited them last year, they were off the mark by country mile

Enforcement action taken and advice given

Today they thanked me much. Significant improvements to their business, safer happier staff and better way of doing things

They thanked me for doing my job !!

(doesn’t happen very often)

In your job role, you are not always welcome on a site.

But when they understand that you are there to help, I think things may change.

Shame a lot think H&S is a bad thing. Or think the WWW gives them all the relevant answers.

This lot hated me on the first visit

But it’s quite satisfying when my intervention is received positively

A set of solid aluminium soft jaws for my big vice. Part of an assessment at school, you could make them for the vices at the college but I asked if I could make some for my own vice, to which they obliged.

The arm of my cable rest has a length of 110 mm foul water pipe on it so there is no sharp edge for the cables to be pulled on or stressed at .

Today I made Vodka slushy. :whistle:

I was curious how cold the ice cream maker would go, ice cream and sorbet reach no more (Less? Colder!) than around -12 degrees before they stop mixing properly, I figured alcohol wouldn't freeze so would let me test it, I totally didn't expect it to start to thicken. :clapping:

If you're curious, it got -25 degrees. I suspect the refrigerant is r-134a which boils at -26.3 degrees so this would point towards that.

Many will tell you not to store a mig torch like that as the weight of the cable stresses the torch neck & can make it loose in the handle!

On the other hand I have been using a piece of pipe welded under the top rail of my bench to hold my torch when I'm welding, similar to you & the torch is still ok!

I saw the idea at an exhaust factory I worked in, every one of the many welding benches had a pipe welded to it for the torch.

Until I can find a more convenient way to hold it I'll take the risk I think. No issues with the torch so far.... Maybe it would be an issue if it got more use, but mostly it just sits there... I would imagine it would get damaged quicker if it was being put into/taken out of the pipe more often.

Edit to add: Also if it breaks that could be the excuse I'm looking for to buy a 5m torch...

Few I have helped make in the past.
The wood ones are made from reclaimed wood and used for a photo shoot.

Then cast in foam for the meetings.
