They are for my DSG which has a proprietary tool post, meaning used holders are harder to find than rocking horse eggs and new are obesely expensive. I did look into replacing it with something more common like a Dixon or Multifix but this was going to be very expensive due to the size.
They aren’t hardened, but neither was the original that came with the lathe. I have made them from 080M40 steel, hopefully this will hold up over time.

Today I attempted to proceed with the compressor project
Took measurements ,made little bit of mathematics and figured out that it isn't worth in effort and money
I'm sorry to leave the project
But it is not worth
Since I was doing it ,I was wondering to make things easy and multi-purpose
I found an hudge amount of issues to overcome so I started taking in consideration all the aspects
Working time
Money to spend
Also thought about how much money I should take for an hour of work and figured out that is cheaper buy a new belt driven air compressor
The issues are mainly related with motors compatibility
It's born three phase, I was thinking to fit a single phase motor and contactor
I only put money to change a ball bearing
Total loss is 7 euros and surely 10 hours of work
I wondered almost other 10 hours of work on it and that's mean 20 hours+all the costs , materials ,electric power,etc

A new air compressor costs only 300 euros and doesn't need any work on it ,plus the vantage to have the warranty

Yep I just need to wait little bit to put money together (hobby budget still poor )
But I will keep the pump and the motors since I got them for free and might be useful a day

A full day of pottering in "playpen."
So more clearing out, finishing stalled projects.
Job No. 1
Nice old wooden Rebate plane.
It was complete, but damp and a massive covering of wax had caused it to seize.
This was after 48 hours in a Vapour cleaning tank. The muck what fell off was amazing.
This shows how bad it was. That was "meths." being used.
Finished.
After spending a few weeks in the house to setting and dry the wood.
Then it was waxed, it drank the wax like a sailor drinks rum.
The blade was sharpened. 2 new wedges had to be made, from Box wood, as the old ones were un-saveable. Due to years of use.
Job 2 through 7.
Rebuild the racking, make a better motor pate for my lathe, re-populate the tap and die sets.
Sort out tools to be sold, fix 3 extension leads and make a Russian small engine Decompression Vale depressor.
This fits on top of the valve, a clamp forces it down into the head so the 2 collects can be fitted.
So I am told.
Job No. 8
A simple clean up job.
All it looked like it needed was a clean up, new battery, maybe a new bulb.
Looks can be deceiving.
Ever Ready 800 batteries are hard to find. So a adapter was ordered.
8 weeks to arrive.
A pile of ਕਰੈਪ.
The outputs were not wired correctly, the solder joints were dry.
That had to be rebuilt. The suppliers was as much use as a Chocolate fire guard.
Then the bulb blew, the lens was seized solid. 4 people tried to unscrew it. Last night a friend just removed it with out any effort.
Final job.
This odd pair of King Dick Adjustable.
They worked, but you could fll the spring was binding.
The spring is jammed in the knurled adjuster. A small tool was made, used and lost to pop it out.
Then it was blackened, polished and wax.
So more clearing out, finishing stalled projects.

Using ideas from a couple of drawings from various Drummond sites on the web.
Three months is a long time I agree but in that time I aquired a milling slide for the lathe, thank you @Milkybars, then a load of tooling and actually get my head around how to use it all.
There are loads of videos on the web but most of them are using proper milling machines, somehow I have great difficulty rotating the operations through 90 degrees.

Today I made this tray (the reinforcing corner pieces have yet to be fixed in place - I need to practise welding such thin metal before doing that):
Not the most interesting creation I've ever made, but a big deal for me as I had to make this sheet metal bender in order to do it:
Made from 75 × 75 × 6 mm angle iron: I bought a circa 1.5 m length of it and cut it in half to make the two parts. The slots in the ends of the angle iron were milled with the two pieces clamped together. I milled a 90 × 25 × 12.5 mm slot in each end with a 12 mm end mill. Hinges are made from 25 mm diameter EN3B with a 12 mm length of silver steel shoved through a hole in the middle. The inner hinge pieces have a 6 mm radius on the end to match the slot made by the end-mill in the angle iron. Two short lengths of 30 × 30 × 2 mm box section are welded to the underside - two longer bits of 25 × 25 × 2.5 mm box section slot into them and are used as levers.
This is the setup I used for my first ever bend (on this or any other bender) - I was bending one of the corner reinforcement pieces you can see in the top photo.
and here's the setup for the third side bend of the tray:
It was a relatively straightforward thing to make, give or take a bit of tweaking with a reamer once the hinge was welded together. I also think I may have been pushing the capacity of my little bench-top milling machine cutting the slot for the hinge:

Very nice work indeed. I have been looking to buy a box pan folder but not much for under £800!
Please could you show a few more pics of the fingers you made up for the narrow bends.

I'll try and take some photos tomorrow if you like, but the "fingers I made up for the narrow bends" were just lumps of aluminium I had in a drawer. A few years ago I bought a bag of off-cuts from ebay. They're various different sizes saw-cut from longer bars. The bars were between 10 and 50 mm a side rectangular profile and the off-cuts were up to 100 mm long, but mostly a lot shorter. They came to hand easily and seemed a reasonable thing to use (held in place with my home-made cantilever clamps). I might mill an angle on one face at some point in case I want to bend more than 90°, but for now they seem to work okay.

I just made a very similar tray for a pull out drawer for the welder trolley I'm finally getting around to finishing.
I just mig welded the corners as it was less bother. The steel I used was galvanised and painted one side so it was too much work to tig.
Vertical down and just keep in front of the weld pool and it should work fine for you.
Don't go for a nice finish or too much penetration as most of it will just be ground off.
Worry more about the inside of the joint as that is a pain to tidy up if it goes wrong.
If it starts to get out of hand stop and let it cool a bit before going again.
Still turned out ok for my job.
I could finish the inside corners off with a bit of sealer or filler if I want to hide the joints, but I'll just leave it as it is.

If you want a tidier inside put a square block of some alloy, that don't fuse with steel, on the inside.

Finally got around to making some shelves for my bench grinder and tool grinder
Nothing special, just some offcuts I had kicking about plus a chance to get some much needed practice at TIG welding as it all new to me

Trapping the quick of the finger nail is a very painful experience as the quick is directly over a nerve . Crushing the bone under the nail there is not very nice either. ...............…. Evidently I turned green before puking up.
The A&E people said people who hit that nerve often pass out or vomit even the biggest hardest of labourers do it .

I broken a fingernail when was child ,an experience I won't to repeat
It's been traumatic
I use box section in stead of angle which is what most use, i sheet the inside first you can use pvc or stock board on the inside if you have a dog that chews use stock board, then a celotex sandwich core with aluminium sheeting the outside, I can put up more pictures of the process if you like, I'm planning on a new roof for next year with vents in the roof to take away moisture, they are clean, don't rot, dont harbour germs or smells warm a bit over the top yes but some people like that, I use celotex on the floor then set your choice of flooring on top, as I said I can post up pictures
