Is that a 10EE? Beautiful looking machine, I've never seen one in the UK. That or a Hardinge HLV would be my dream lathe.

It's a pleasure to use. In the UK we have the CVA which is a licensed copy of the 10EE without the pretty lines. Actually I got both machines you mention. The HLV is nearing completion of a full restoration and when it's done the 10EE will be getting the treatment.

A day of ups and downs.

Cooler day, water fight with neighbour.
Stanley No 5 1/2 plane.
I knew parts were missing, I am sorting that out. The blade and top iron where what I knewe to be missing, but the adjuster screw fell into 4 bits when I cleaned it.



It was striped, de-rusted and the threads were cleaned up.
The wood was sanded back, stained, varnished. When the finish hard enough they will be given a good wax



The handle is odd, doesn't look original. But is stamped Bailey. I think it was adapted to suit the old owner.

Complete and it should of needed a clean and a hone of the blade.



But on removing from the de-rusting tank a bit was missing. The crack is old, on close look you can see the clean metal.

Being cast it could off been a difficult repair. I have no access to TIG today, Mig possible to repair. Arc will be messing.

So the body, a 20mm plate off steel into oven at 250deg C for 60 minutes. Removed and using a Oxy torch the crack was warmed to red heat.




Silver solder was ran in. The solder flowed easily, but did not give a full penetration. But as a proof of concept it worked. What you can't see is how much heat is coming of that. Then it was back in the oven at 250Deg C for 60 minutes, then allowed to cool in oven.

The two planes were painted and assembled.



The blade is near to the end of its life. But took a edge. As you can see, little or no distortion. When the paint and varnish is hard it will be given a hard wax finish.


Blood drawing saw.



Simple case of dismantling, de-rusting and cleaning of the wood.
But.
The brass work was cleaned up using steam power.



The above is a "Mock up" to give me an idea of dimensions, spaces and a good layout.

I got this Multi-meter an age ago. It did not work.
The Japanese manufacture where kind enough to send me a set of wiring diagrams and component lay out.



The Positive batter terminal has failed, it is that odd circular thing on the back of the MCM. I made a new one. The Battery tension is not by a spring. But by an adjuster screw.

You can see one of the failed components. But I had a few similar resistors kicking around.
So has the Woden was cooling I fixed it.



Set of leads. For a meter made in the early 1950's the accuracy is good. When measuring 240vAc agaist a calibrated meter it was only 2% out.



Could not make the beech, so I made one.

He's not finished yet, but mocked up pretty well. LED strip inside the "head" and I need to get a couple of bulbs for hands then make a wooden base for him to stand on from some oak I have.

Just Google malleable iron fittings but shop around as prices can vary quite a bit.

P.S. Mpats light is purely fittings no pipe sections.

Hardinge HLV would be my dream lathe.

I once passed on a HLV for £600 complete with everything.

In my defence I think it is the only bad decision I made with machine tool buying in all the years. Still rankles though. :-(

When I collected my M300 bits from Slideway Services, they were just finishing off a full rebuild of a HLV.

Can I ask what it cost to get the M300 done? It's almost certainly more than I'm going to pay but there's some pitting and scoring on my Chipmaster bed that could do with sorting.

Cyclematic make a licensed (I think, looks very similar) copy of the HLV, I think a new one is around the 20k mark !

I had the bed reground (he had to take 70thou off ) plus crosslide, topslide. Saddle built back up with Marlon. the and stock and tailstock scraped in.
Cost was about 800. ISTR. It was a while back. I had the TS done a few yrs later and that was just a tickle job, cost was £750

Bought a Parkside grinder a while back, kind of works so long as you don't push the blade, or it will trip.
However I didnt buy it for that, I wanted to see if it would be any good running 50mm flexloc discs. Problem is the female thread is m5. I need m6. Not knowing if this would cause it to trip even more, I didn’t want to invest any more time than needed to prove concept.



Note I’ve already lost the damn m5 bolt.

I turned down a flanged m5 bolt to 7mm, and bored out nut to 7mm.

It works and doesnt stall the motor



Shame it vibrates like a , with a velco pad on. Not that would be balanced,the threads aren’t central in the nut.I’ll machine a one piece now I know it works

Got the frame for the small gate welded up and the previously plasma cut sheet welded to it. Still have the big gate and side part to make then I will take it to the blasters and see what it looks like just plain, if I don't like the look then I will get them to powder coat or paint it.

Found a bit of rusty tat up the garden and since the fashion is to 'upcycle' tat, I made a table out of it. I am going to cover the ply with something, as soon as I remember where I left it.
