I thought they were waterproof

I don't know, I suspect it's supposed to be IP-64/65 (There's gaskets around the seams and behind the buttons, they've clearly considered water getting in) but the drivers just clip in and three had been dislodged which would let water in. It's clearly had a hard life.

I've got a UE Roll which is IP67 and "Impact rated" (It survived getting slung down the stairs. ) which sounds better imo, not to mention half the price.

I've never been impressed with the beets sound quality off my head phones that ended up going back as my 30£ ones sounded better than a 400£ pair of them

Made these for another chap who's retiring soon. Inside the metal tube (which is a liaison tube from an AS332L2) is a bottle of Bunnahabhain Stiuireadair.

The bits on the piece of wood are all ex aircraft, the gauge was dismantled so the clock could be inserted. He's an avionics engineer so it's all relevant (like the soldering iron).

Today I mad a swivel so I could rotate a petrol tank while I was painting it.



Just scrap heap challenge with bits I had laying about.
Bit of rebar, a 16mm coupler and bolt.



Worked a treat but I won't be looking to get a test cert for it

Been replacing the 2 taper rollers on this saw idler wheel,it’s 4’ & the bearings were 110 mm ,good job it didn’t need skimming,my lathes not big enough!
This is an old blade,I’ve used segments off for making springs,cutting oak mainly.

The other day I got this Wold Drill Lathe. In my haste I made 2 mistakes in repairing it. The second was not de-greasing it prier to paint.



The Unpainted bits, the bolts pins etc. They cleaned up very well. Wire brush in bench grinder. The threads, UNC and UNF were cleaned using die nuts, and a new nut. The threads at the end are a bit damaged. But not enough to stop the future use. I do not plan to strip it down again.

In Paint, we are looking good, feeling smug.



Pride cometh before a fall.



The paint failed. It was either dirty or the etch primmer was not going what it said on the can. It was all the Alloy body parts. So striped all the paint off and started again. New etch primmer, some filler primmer and 2 coats of top coat. Rattle cans.

Last night I assembled it and realised my first problem..



I didn't check to see if any of my drills will fit.

I'm sure if you keep an eye on gumtree etc something old will come up that should fit. Don't expect huge amounts out of it but it could be reasonably fun.

Been doing a bit more dust creation today. Fancied doing this style of bench for a while, used up a few more bits of sleeper I've had lying round.
Lots of hand work to get everything fitted up but I'm happy with how it came out.

That's the exact setup I've got lurking in the workshop.... including the metal-bodied Wolf drill. Mum bought it for Dad back in the early 1960s? Whole setup might be available if you're interested.

I'm not sure yet, it's pressure treated already so I'll probably just go with boiled linseed oil as it's an outside bench.

Try deck oil, I have started using the one from Rye oils recently on some gates and stuff, easy to apply and seems very long lived protection.

On the back of my job lot of spanners post a while back, they've now been through caustic soda and citric baths.
I thought I'd run a few past the wire brush in the bench grinder and was pleasantly surprised - we like shiney things, right?

Could be some treasures among them, e.g a couple stamped Snail brand - one has sizes at each end and oddly the other just has the number 15821 at one end . I've never seen that done before on a spanner. Pics don't really do the outcome justice.

EDIT: It just goes to show you can polish a turd

If you now polish them using MattF's graphite & beeswax polish mixture they will look even nicer! I have the recipe somewhere if you want it.

Couple of things I made today.
Old bit of prop shaft turned down to this.

Into the Indexing head on the Chiron and rounded half of them off.

Also bored a hole then rotated 90 degrees and cut a slot part way through.

They are to make hinges for the Cheetah Cats handrails, these are ones I made for another Cheetah last year.

And here they are fitted to that boat.

They allow the rail to fold 180 degrees.

Next up it was to bore out a new saw blade for the boat yard, had to take out 1mm from the bore as for some weird reason their saw is 1mm bigger than 1-3/4".

Then it was facing off the flanges of an exhaust water cooled manifold. I was supposed to be making the manifold but never had time so I suggested he try and get it made by someone else. It needed skimmed though so I ended up doing that. Bit awkward due to the shape and the way the welds were but I got it gripped and eventually clocked true.

Had to take off 1.6mm from the centre to get the other two cleaned up, would have preferred to use a big face mill but the only way I could reach down with the right angled bend in the way was to use an extended cutter.

Is there any chance of a photo from the side view? Those look like they would be a nice project for our mens shed folk. We're always on the lookout for something different & relatively simple to make & we have acquired a large quantity of 6x3" pressure treated Scandinavian pine.

Today I made a cheap combination square work again.
The tip of the adjusting screw had broken off



So I made a new one out of a 6mm bolt using a 1mm cutting disk in a small grinder and a file.



Even if I only paid myself £2 an hour it wasn't worth doing but I hate throwing things out.




Just to be clear it didn't take that long, the square isn't worth £2
