WW1 error Ladies shoe last. Well not that accurate. It is simply a No1 size last. But my research shows the war department in 1918 listed it as a Female Shoe Last.

De_rusted and about to be oven baked for painting. The makers name is a stamping and not deep. The sze is a casting mark.

Finished, bit of gold paint to highlight the size.

But I like this.

The swirls and eddies visible in the metal and all 3 last horns . I am led to believe it is from casting the liquid metal at a fast pour rate, thus making the eddies.

Silly, but nice.

Clocked in monarch apron to machine in close prior to scraping.
Significant wear on the underside so I’ve got to chomp out for turcite. It’s a pita as the mill throat is a inch short of milling both dovetails at the same time

I went for spending £10 on some metal to make my own for a tool that will only be used once every decade or so.

its handy that I had a 3" holesaw so the waste in the centre was use to make the top of the puller

maybe not the best tig welding, but its the first proper job that Ive done with my R-Tech AC/DC tig welder that I got last June. I was tempted to use a mig welder, but I think I need the practice with TIG. here it is with my cheap homemade cooler. one thing that suprised me is that the R-tech wp20water cooled torch leads seem to be more flexible than the wp9 air cooled torch leads.

A connection for my gas bottle 'tyre pumperupper'. I've ordered the necessary Euro connectors so hopefully will soon be able to test the 'theory'.

I should have started the tap off in the lathe, but Stupo did it in the vice [again] and I find it VERY difficult to get it perpendicular - some folk never learn :doh:

Wrong handle, but a good one. It will be saved. Blade rusty and a bent tang.

A chisel or a screwdriver?

So, lets start.

A recycled handle from a chisel I could not save. I cut the rings into the box wood to provide a bit more grip. The metal was cleaned up with a wire brush in a grinder. The tang is traditionally left "soft", when compared to the rest of the blade. I took a gamble and did not re harden or temper the blade. It looked abused but not ruined. The "Brass and cooper item" is a soot lamp.

Handle fitted and ready to have the "Grinding angle" I used molten sulphur to fix the handle, the traditional way. I normally use a "Foaming glue" as this will fill the voids and acts as a cushion when using the chisel with a mallet.

The "Grinding Angle" done. You can see the soot on the blade. This will give you an indication how it is going.
No Soot Lamp? A permanent marker will do the same job.

The cutting angle done, the burr has been removed. I ended up putting on a bigger than normal cutting angle to show how the soot shows up the difference between the grinding angle and sharpening angle.

Finished. Handle waxed, brass polished. The cutting edge is very sharp. The steel in this old tool, again, is far better than a "Modern" chisel.

Oh that?
That is a quick and easy soot lamp.

not today but something i had been meaning to get round to, a base plate for my racal mast, a pump up radio mast for my other hobby. if memory serves it was 3mm plate i used as it was all i had kicking around at the time. pretty simple build but nice to get in the workshop again.
