How come you used duplex? Not familiar with F51, is that similar to 2205 duplex?

Simply because I had some left over from making a prop shaft.
Not sure regards the 2205, it has always been F51 that I spec when the higher strength compared to 316 is required ie in highish powered boats which want the smallest dia shaft possible.

Noticing the status of the mandrels on those two Pop rivets, there appears to be a need for some clenching.

That’s my high tech anti theft device. I don’t want other kids stealing it when I go to the park.

It looks like F51 is similar to EN 1.4462 which is the same as UNS S32205.

High strength and better corrosion resistance than 316SS in that case.

Yep, 1.4462 according to the delivery note.

I made a start to the CNC lathe by removing a lot of the old stuff.
First it was the monitor and button panel.

Then it was remove the rest of the control panel.

Then round to the electrical panel to start removing stuff from there.

It took a while as I was making sure all machine side wiring was marked but by the end I had a big pile of parts on the floor, some will be reused such as the servo drives, relay unit and PLC.

The cabinet is looking a bit more empty, in fact it is even more so than in this pic as the relays also been removed.

Man, you have some patience. Whenever faced with something like this I always struggle with 'where to start'. Often takes me longer to figure out what to do than to do it!

I have been working on it for weeks, working out what is needed and how to connect things up which is made a bit more complicated due to the Orient having a preference for sourcing Inputs and Sinking Outputs and the Occident tending towards the opposite.

Sometimes I should admit some of the stuff I get is "A Puppy" But on the other hand some have turned into a joy.
Either one has been fun. Fun in the build, fun in the finding out how to do something new.
Or fun in making something from old stuff to do the job of expensive devices.



My Oil lamp. Almost a puppy. I first thought the wick did not work as the gear wheel was broken.
It wasn't. The lamp was a fake. Designed to look like a oil lamp.
I had a plan.
Near me is a second hand shop what always has oil lamp parts.



Body modified to take a new wick holder. Solder paste applied to both parts and melt6ed with a propane torch. It was a pleasant surprize how the paste flowed. No cleaning off excess.




The wick holder and replacement wick from another holder what was not suitable.
I had to match up 3 parts to fit the lamp. But on the lamp body, wick holder and threaded insert they all have stamped "Made in England."




The glass flame shield is odd. It has a mark on the lower edge and my research indicates it is from approx. 1920.
It takes a shine very well, as does the brass on all the parts.

Pump Handle Blow torch. Nice unit, pump works and it looked it has seen little use.
Tried it out and it leaked from the base. Not in one place, but from a series of "weeps".
Frustrating. As most of this type of paraffin torch I see have failed pump washers.
So what to do.
I tried using a propane to warm the metal enough to solder. One thing what was enough to make me consider carrying on was it would "Flash" flame. Not safe.
So trip to the Waste electrical centre and I collected a Halogen ring and controller. Plus a small convection oven I rigged a "Heath Robinson" set up with the ring.

Using the ring I slowly heated the body until the old solder ran off. Then using Flux solder I feed in new solder into place. It worked and the unit was sealed.



The pump hand was rapped into waxed string, as the original was, the jets cleaned and now It is finished. More on the paint below.




What a pig.
I knew the pump had issues, but that was easily sorted. It has a nut what is used the compress the cone washer to make a better seal.

The issues was when it was in flame it would leak fuel, what would catch fire. It did not impress "The Boss". I got the crossed arms and tapy foot treatment.



Striped and the sealing washers and split burner nut replaced.



Finished.

The paint on this and the one above is stove enamel. Undercoat and top coat was brush applied and then baked in the salvage oven. Took a few attempts to get it right. I think it turned out all right.
