Tomorrow it will be sheeted round bar down the edge then lifted onto the boat ready for glassing the feet in place, not me doing that though, I refuse to touch that horrible stinking stuff

Do they glass in pads for the legs to bolt to or sit on, or do they just glass straight round them?

They glass in angle and bolt to that, some bolt in two bits, one either side.
One of the other skippers I have done tables for (on his and his two sons boats) makes up plywood pads and I make stainless plates with studding connector nuts welded to them and they sink into the ply and then glass over the top.

I was lying down on the job today, had a nice comfy mechanics trolley thingy to push myself about on whilst I welded the sheets to the frame from underneath.

This section of the table almost finished, I have a small tank to make tomorrow which will be welded to the underside of the table and then they will lift it onto the boat and fit.

Spent the last few hours this evening discussing Davits, haulers etc so now we kind of know where we are heading with those parts I can get measured up and the drawings/coding done for cutting up a 2000mm x 1000mm x 12mm piece of Alu.

Hi , just glanced at your blog , are there a couple of pics of the old waterworks dam above Ngaruawahia, ? Was there a few weeks back , dog knee prevented me getting up the 1300 odd steps,

Today I made a tank from Aluminium, this was tigged rather than migged, I had forgotten how slow tig was after doing mainly mig on larger parts recently.
The tank is 930mm long 250mm wide and 200mm deep.

The bung I made for the tank from some Acetal.

Then I welded the steering rods up now that I know the length required, also made stainless bushes for the rod ends where the fixing bolts go through.

Lastly a plate to hold 4 switch panels, made from 3mm stainless and given a quick polish although it doesn't really look like it in the pic. I still have to bore the mounting holes, that will be done tomorrow.

Not enough for what I want to get done but too many for the aches and pains.

Prefabricated lift shaft. Only a window of opportunity of a day to install on a live hospital site so erected on its side in our yard then lifted onto a trailer. Hugely reduces the amount of working at height. All being well it should be craned into position on site within a couple of hours.

Hi , yeah been a few times , have daughter son in law and my grand kids were born there in Raglan , all naturalised citizens, will be back, also were the Blue Lakes , river in the pics,

Commissioning the big monarch lathe
Some gimp had removed the apron lube pump and cut the lines.
I tried to ignore the cross slide as it’s serviceable but I just can’t .
So I’m going to have to re scrape it. I was a machine tool builder in the nineties and I don’t have fond memories but needs must.
Cross feed screw is knackered so I got a price off monarch just to see which was $4000 with vat and import duty so I’ll be making that!
My Holbrook will achieve as good or better thread pitch error than the original when new

How long is that crossfeed screw? Ive been reading up on machine truing and scraping, I must say it seems to be a lot of work, and a true trade type of job. I couldnt imagine doing years of it. Good luck!

The crossfeed screw on my m300 was shot. Replaced it with a ballscrew and nut, cheep as chips of eblag. Zero backlash now

The Ikegai manual lathe a friend had came standard with ballscrew on the Z axis. Beautiful lathe, probably the nicest I have ever used.
