A free tip I found useful.
Cut slots for the handles, makes it easier to get the tools in and out.
That way they do not end up on top of the shelf.

Thats a good idea, in this case the bit of plastic facia board is probably not up to it but for the file store I'll do that

Over time the fascia board ...
if it is the stuff with a right angle bend in it tends to crack along the right angle edge line if it gets any oil into the plastic between the outer faces . Same happens with the weight of tools on it , over time it splits along the angle .
On my replacement shelf which was nearly 900 mm long I used off cuts from the same board to make triangular supports for the shelf . One glued to the shelf at either end & screwed to the wall and one in the middle also glued & screwed in place .

Recently in my home town there has bean a break out of fairy doors appearing on trees, brushes, wall and hills etc.

All the doors are made from horseshoes and other odd bits. Fixing the doors was always and still is with a dab of body filler. That does not harm or damage the structure it is on.





Please ignore the dark oak behind the door, that is there as the wax dries. The building of the doors is simple. Once a horseshoe is pulled from the box it must be used. Nothing new is allowed to make it and 45 mins is the max time allowed.


Or so I am told.

I am innocent and clearly have no knowledge of the doors.
That is the last door to be made.

Rear tyre looks like 4.00" X 19". Used to be always used with a 2.75" X 21" front, but that front is not that size.

It was built on the 28/4/71 and then the next day was shipped to America, and as far as I know was turned into a desert racer, apparently took part in the Barstow to vegas race??? Who knows. Came back to this country about nine months ago, when I bought it.
Been a big learning curve for me, the first Brit bike I've owned!!
As for internals, could be American speck, but I don't know enough to say weather it is or not.

This looks a bit naughty...

I'd replaced some fascia boards here at Wedg1e Villas and the paint on the remaining wood was clinging on by the will of Allah so I got my trusty Burns-o-matic ( ) torch and a scraper and took it all back to bare wood. In the process I finished off two disposable gas cartridges... and then I remembered the threads on here about refilling them.

Found an old screw-on torch, dismembered a spare propane regulator for its coupling and turned the rest from offcuts of brass. The main tube is quarter-inch drilled through 3.5mm.
Managed to fill the cartridges back to their stated weight (330g) and they light up just fine
Noticed that the mesh strainer on the tank connector caught a fair bit of rusty-looking debris; I couldn't get the valve to close fully so I'm guessing there was more cack on the seating... cracked the valve open a couple of times which seemed to blow it all clear. Better than a slow leak filling the workshop...!

Now I'm wondering if I can do something similar to decant Argoshield into pub bottles...

Decided to treat the other half to the shoe rack of her dreams today.

She's been on at me for a while to replace the temporary flimsy thing we have. Whilst I'm certainly no carpenter I felt confident i could put something reasonable together without spending any money.

So this is what i started with:

A load of old wood from a pergola i pulled down. It was wet, ends were rotted and covered in creepy crawlies. Was going to dump it but i knew i could find a use for it!

Cut to length all the bits i needed, tried sanding it back by hand but it was too slow. Tried a flap disc on my angle grinder which worked well.. but my ryobi grinder runs off batteries and always dies after literally a few minutes so i nipped to B&Q and spent £20 on a macallister cheap job, some sanding pads, screws and varnish. Took a while but I was later left with this:

Banged it together, gave it a finer sanding:

Then after staining (not quite dry on the tops of the shelves which is why some parts look greyish:

obviously i ignored the multiple coats it said to do on the can and just saturated as much as I could in one go

You can see its predecessor next to it.. desired for the fire.

So i didn't manage to do it for zero cost but I'm actually pretty happy with the new grinder, its got a paddle switch rather than a trigger so you don't have to keep pressing the button to keep it running which is surprisingly helpful!
