I'm quite fond of Wickes "50 or is it 45, 55 or 60mm thick depending on which edge / corner you measure" Celotex insulation. I think the bend in each sheet comes free. Pretty sure there's specific places you can buy seconds. Didn't realise they shopped there too!

a mess of diesel on the deck....

we have an old fiat fiorino mk1 1.7d as a general farm hack. Surprising for it's age, (1993) bodywise it's fine, no rust at all on the chassis, some small spots on the paint work form stone chips, but nothing to speak off.. MOT overdue, need a bit of work, so decided the old girl deserved some attention, so :-

new front discs and pads,
New steering rack gaitors as they were split, and ball joints...Did those as they were coming off for the gaitors anyway, and one boot was split so changed both at the same time.
1 lower track rod arm, boot had split..
Oil filter and oil change and fuel filter change, new air filter, quick service..
One of the injectors had a return line that was perished, so changed them all, except the end cap as I didn't have one handy..


Did most of that last weekend, for the MOT yesterday. Wife took it to work as it's just across the road from her work... As expected, it failed, some minor (non failing) comments, lights need adjusted etc, their usual nonsense, but nothing of consequence... Main points were the tracking is out, which was expected after changing the steering rack ball joints. Already had an alignment check booked for monday anyway, so wasn't concerned about that, as the retest is free. No it really failed because he couldn't test the emissions, as it was peeing diesel out and he wouldn't test it (fair comment)... yep you've guessed it, the only bit of return line (end cap) I didn't change, decided to quit on the way to the MOT test centre... well it was Friday the 13th eh.... happy days....

anyway today bodged a bit of tube with bolt in the end to prove it's just that, and yep all is dry again. Will pick a proper one up on monday when I go for the alignment... then hopefully I can get it retested early next week (they're on holiday this next week).

Overall happy with that, the benefit of these old cars, is the non OEM parts are cheap enough.. I just forgot how much I hate working on cars.. I really should get a 4 post lift.... hate working off the deck, knees and back don't appreciate it anymore....

Still got to do the cam belt, as it's getting on in years from the last change, nowhere near the limit for distance, but given it's age, I figured for 15 euros it's a wise investment.. They changed the kit (which includes the water pump and tensioner pulleys) the last time so they should be fine, so I'll hopefully get away with just changing the belt. Unfortunately it's a bit of a faff to get to, tight up against the chassis rail, so will do that when I get a bit more motivated...

This week it seems a few fishemen have taken to throwing their lobster gauges away with the undersized lobsters Easily done as I have done it a few times when I was on the boats.
I always have a few ready but they cleaned me out last week so made up a few more today.

Skimmed a set of 17" hauler plates and also filled and ground an ejector knife.

Assembled more than made, this three in one surfaced out of the mire a few weeks back, one I bought as a part assembled box of bits. Finally got around to stripping, cleaning and reassembling it today, quite chuffed with it, it does what it says on the tin, it crops, folds and rolls.

Put the rollers in the lathe to clean them up.

Little job done yesterday, make a couple of brackets to carry long handled brushes and extension poles in the roof of a van for a gent who has a gutter cleaning business,
there were a couple of handy captive nuts in the van roof cross bracing so a couple of simple brackets were made from 25 x 25 shs with some 6mm separator pins, a quick squirt of black paint to finish.

Couple of jobs done this week - garden gate, rubbish photo, it’s difficult to convey how steep this garden is - there’s a medieval town wall about 40 feet above this point, the gate is to keep visitors out as it’s so dangerous up there - very narrow ledges.

Started sorting our larger taps out which meant moving these storage bins from the container over to the workshop. I just couldn't see a sensible method of otherwise storing such large taps.

Metric to go yet but I haven't got as many of those to sort.

OK, I’ve done a fair bit of work for the guy already, and there’s more on the books, so I did this one a little cheaper than usual. I had to get the three arches rolled for me as I have nothing to handle 16mm bar, so my go-to fabrication shop in town did them for 65 euros each, including the material, a bit steep but he often gets me out of a hole for not much money on other jobs, so I swallowed it.

All up with my labour to put it together, consumables (30 euros) it was 365.00 euros. For anyone other than this guy it would have been 465.

No doubt some of the pro’s on here will say I’m selling myself cheap, but this guy and his partner provide steady work, and have introduced me to other people that are now clients - I’ve done 1k for the first person they introduced me to this month.

The fabrication firm i used for the hoops, and for guillotine work, laugh at me for doing ‘little jobs’, but they won’t touch them and are happy to keep the guys in their shop occupied with stuff that I drop on their doorstep.

Only recently acquired most of these to be honest.

All big stuff. You should see some of the threading inserts I picked up.

When I bought it it wasn't advertised with this name nor Mitutoyo and pic didn't show it neither.

Need to get a better one. Indicator is good enough for trying in vices but the dove tail is crap.

I bought one of the noga clone stands that came with a miluloyo dti. It made me chuckle too!
