12metre long platform, and 4 tanks.
Back there next month for the second level platform to go on top.

For a while i've wanted to make my own anti-theft device for the Sprinter's exhaust. It has all kinds of other preventative stuff on it, but up until now the exhaust was vulnerable. My last one had a CatLok but it's a lot of money and with a cordless grinder offers little protection.

Started by doing a bit of CAD work, which resulted in these:

Test fit pieces:

Quick test ones tacked to check clearance and finalise measurements:

This led onto final dimensions, new uprights cut, profiled the ends, welded onto the gearbox crossmember:

Studs added, a bar will go across the top of the exhaust, linking the two uprights. I did think about using shear nuts but this does need to be removeable for clutch replacement.

Painted (badly) just to limit rust, bar test fitted. I'll actually replace this with box section so the nuts sit in a recess to make them harder to access. They're already a very odd type. I should really paint the whole thing properly too.

I will modify this later on, add more to it, but it's a decent deterrent. Harder to get the exhaust off, the rear clamp isn't accessible, you can no longer just pull the DPF out under the van. Peace of mine for me at least. I hate parking this anywhere but home or the farm i store it on.

Got the treadplate yesterday, cut to size and welded onto the ramp frames. Will nail them to the garage later on

Did you find treadplate prices have shot up?

I need 9-10 sheets of 3mm and been quoted 130-150 per sheet!

Don't buy it very often so can't say, I was £207 plus VAT for a 2500mm x 1250mm x 6mm

15.1/2 and 13 inch hauler plates skimmed.

Cutlass bearing skimmed.

Then a couple of locating recesses milled into it.

Chopped up anther Capto C4 holder and a square shank tool holder, milled the faces then welded together.

Tested on the lathe, working fine.

Remember those railings I had to take down cos they should have been galvanised,today I re erected them,put spigots on the bottom,few lugs,and dropped them in the grouted in sleeves,welded around at the base,then m6 countersink screws or a weld to join together,back tomorrow with galvafroid and zinc spray.

Made a manifold out of scrap for my '28 Chevy racer, to fit a Stromberg 81 carb.

Bit of therapy today. I have done a lot of this in the past and this this took me, from start to finish, about an hour and a half for both grips. I know which cutter to use and the angle to cut at and the different ways to hold the cutter for the curves. But I couldn't explain it to save my life!

Started on the one on the right, you can see the diamonds worn flat on the grip on the left:



This is the cutter, they are carbide so unlikely to wear out and made by a company called Dem-Bart, you can spend a fortune on all the different types and styles but I have found the single cutters are the simplest and work for most everything, just don't veer off!

I see where you have gone wrong, newbie mistake putting the swarf in a bag, the floor is the place for that, keeps the smart dressed sales guys out

I still have about half as much over the back of the drills that hasen't been picked up yet. Still one more item to drill and tap, then cleanup job

Repurposing a failed parting holder into a 32mm bar holder. Half hour hacksawing. That was a 14tpi blade, now where can I buy some 10 or 6tpi?!
