We do key cutting in the shop and I'm to tight to pay £30 for a new blade for the machine so I made a jig to sharpen the old one.

Enjoyed making it, works well and saved some dosh.

It's an adapter to run a Bernzomatic torch off a big propane cylinder, I'm not paying £10 for a 400g bottle when a 13kg refill is only thrice that.

It's an 18tpi thread, the bottle thread is slightly different but it's "PTFE tape close". A proper bottle also seals to a stem in the torch but I don't have any O rings that small so I'm sealing on the thread and have put a bit of self amalgamating tape over the vent hole in the handle.



Masking tape to keep the SA tape from pealing and a jubilee clip because it's easier than making a proper hose barb.

Repaired a rotten pitted original 60's Vespa/Lambretta (can't remember which) seat... bit...
20G mild steel, 30Amps.

And I've still got equally thin and fiddley bits to stick back togeether tomorrow.

Bernzomatic torch

I've got one of theirs which ran off propane and oxy, only you can't get oxy [and maybe even the propane either] here with the 'old size' fittings.
It was a really useful thing for heating up and or freeing 'stuck' stuff........ It's a shelf ornament now.....

I didn't make this today........... I made it 15 years ago today....15/08/2002

25 of these were the very last things ever made at Caterpillar Saxham (Suffolk) before they closed the doors for the final time and made us all redundant 15 years ago (and these made up a part of my unofficial severance package ).

It is a slip ring type boat anchor I modified from an American design for hard gravel bottoms so that it is suitable for soft Norfolk Broads bottoms. When lying at anchor the flow on the boat's hull makes the anchor dig deeper into the silt & mud making it hold fast, but if the anchor has dug in too deeply or fouled and you cannot release it, then you motor upstream until the ring slips along the bar and it pulls the anchor out from the opposite direction.

It is made from 16Ø MS bar hot bent on a jig I made from scrap and the fluke plate is made from 8mm MS plate cut using the Oxy/propane Magic-Eye cutter.
When finished I think they weighed approx. 7.2kg/16lbs and would comfortably hold a 25ft cabin cruiser mid stream on a falling tide on the R. Bure

It turns out a piece of heatshrink around the stem in the torch makes a decent sealing surface, now it's not sealing against the thread and dosen't need tape around the handle.

Last night I came off being on call, that meant a few beers could be had.

Well I had fun, I had 2 worn out old files, power tools an a bundle of wooden handles.

One small custom made draw knife.
The tang from the second file was brazed on to make the second handle.

Due to issue with my left arm, still, I have set the left hand side to suit my needs.

On the draw knife that I made for myself I had the handles even straighter to the blade....... 15* each side if I recall correctly

More/ rest of scooter panels.
First pic shows the two panels, left hand one showing previous 'repair' and black lines to cut out.
Foreground has the two bits of 16g spotted together and the resulting chiseled step created in the new material.

Took the swaged bit, cut to size, curved, sliced (there's a folded lip on the inside) and stuck back together.

Sanded up and DA'd.

Finally got around to photography of a porch/carport gazebo I made last year,first time I've done the detailing on channel & have since used it on another structure.

No welding involved with this one, I am helping with a project to upgrade the supplies and metering where my workshop is based. Am getting fed up with traipsing back to my workshop every time I need something that isn't in my electrical toolbox, so today I built this>

A set of shelves/cabinet that sits on a sack barrow now I can get to tools faster it's easier to push around. Fitted a little 4" swivel vice from china on the top.
If I need to use it as a barrow again that short length of broom handle comes out and off you go.

Just made this, some sort of attachment for a fly tying vice I believe.

I really need to get some smaller dia stainless filler though as the 1.6mm was a bit on the large side.

I didn't cast them myself, I must admit. Harling Foundries did the job for me but took 3 1/4 years to get round to doing them. Well, I did say there was no hurry. Great people and I'll use them again.

Just need to finish off the grinding out and polishing. £35 plus vat each. Not bad.

think next time you might want to say i want it yesterday you might get it in a few months then

only a few months ago the otherhalfs father wanted a lot of welding done on a vintage car went to a bloke said wanted some work done and could he have a look yes was the answer no problem i know where you are will pop over and have a look he seen nothing and seen the bloke again up the local shops 6 weeks later and just droped in im still looking for that welding beening done yes he said sorry was doing stuff will pop over 5 months later other half father was suprised to see the bloke standing behind him when he was cleaning out his other car the bloke said wheres the car then ?
