Today I lower my bait holder by 20mm

A mug of Coffee.
It is a strong fresh brew.
I rescued this coffee grinder. Beech wood and complete. But rusty and very stiff to operate.
The wood was caked in grime, wax and dirt.
The metal work went into Citric acid and the enamel paint came off a treat, as did the rust and old coffee bean residue.
The metal work was primed and painted with food safe paint. The screws were sealed with bee's wax.
The wood was placed in a "Meths." vapour bath and the dirt dripped off. Then it was scraped clean using a "DIY" cabinet scraper. The wood was good tight grain and nice to work with.
The varnish was a solvent based one and then given a good waxing.
The only screws what were reused were the ones holding the big part of the lid. They were a very odd size.
The first brew was very good. I set it to a fine grind. I am leaving a grind in the drawer to allow the grinder to season again after my work.
The teeth of the grinder only needed a dress with a slip stone to take off one burr..

I remember as kids one of our jobs was to use one of those to wash the upstairs windows (in fact, all the windows) - I didn't use the word "chores" deliberately because it was great fun, you could soak anyone who came near with impunity because your Mum had sent you out armed with what was effectively a water blaster....
Very odd, I wonder why they went to the extra work in the making? Unless they anticipated an ardvark spending ages in the future trying to dismantle it

That's a strange looking mig gun you have, handle looks like it came off a bike! Is there a reason for the design?

It is an 8m Push-Pull gun, there is a motor in the handle that aids in pulling the wire.

We couldn't get our Binzel PP 36 to work properly at all, for some reason. The "pull" motor couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding. much less any wire through it. Never did get to the bottom of it, instead managed the job with a better push-only system.
Anyway... I got a one-off lifting basket frame free from a completed job a while ago, was going to get chopped up for scrap.
Brother made legs for this frame last week:
And I made it all red on Saturday. 1 coat red oxide, 2 coats johnstones pro gloss.
It's going to be a new base for the farm water storage tank, which is an 18 cubic metre stainless steel tank... that's sat on the back of a rusting trailer for the last 10 years.

Did you get the PCB that Binzel supply to run the push-pull gun from?

They won't pull the wire as such, they just help it along.
The other torch I had was a different story, sadly it was just 24v but it could fair pull the wire through.

I made a thread on it ages ago, it was frustrating the life out of me.
Basically, our sheetmetal shop's Lincoln speedtec 405 wouldn't feed 1050 aluminium wire properly through a 3m gun. Tried a few things but the lads in the shop wanted a "short, push pull gun like we had on the old ESAB". So I contacted our LWS who is an appoved Lincoln service centre, Binzel dealer etc, and they said they would sort us out.
Couldn't get a short one, 8m was what was available. This is what we paid for on the invoice:
BINZEL PUSH PULL GUN PP 36 8MTR AIR COOLED TORCH 42V
LINC K14125-1 KIT 12-PIN SOCKET(F)
LINC1158-641-150R LINCOLN MALE PLUG 12-PIN
To me, that suggests they got it to work on a 42V system within the Lincoln PF44 wire feeder. Not that I have any idea if it was a true 42V or not.
Anyways... it never worked properly. It welded... when the cable was in a dead straight line. The push was always overpowering the pull, even on lightest feed pressure. The wire was coming out like a corkscrew - where it had been pushed under pressure. The pull motor didn't even have the guts to pull a dead end of wire through the cable. You could stop the push roller with a bit of finger pressure.
They tried a few things, sent back to the shop a couple of times, had Binzel and Lincoln service engineers look at it, none of them said anything was wrong with it, and all concluded "ah its that super soft wire, never seen anything like that before".
Gave up with the LWS in disgust, moved onto a smaller shop who actually knew what they were talking about, and hired a Lorch S3 with 3m standard gun, the feed system was far superior to the Lincoln PF44 and it worked a treat for a couple of weeks full time on the 1050 wire. In the end, we returned the Binzel PP for credit.
I suppose it speaks volumes when the smaller shop specifically ordered some 1050 wire to try with their machine, and sent me a video of it working on a 4m gun with a knot tied in it, before they even brought the machine for us to try.
the Lorch had a watercooled gun which obviously helps with keeping tips cool etc, but I've ran enough aluminium to know whether it's a tip overheating or if it's an actual feed issue. This binzel gun was a feed issue.

Never really twigged this thread was under 'Metal Forming', that's why I can never find it. Ho-hum... how about plastic, metal gets like that sometimes.
Anyway, decided I needed a workshop fuel can to supply the bikes when I'm balancing carbs etc, and being thoroughly scunnered at the stupid money being asked for stupid little bottles of plastic with a nozzle, I decided to make one.
Reluctant to drill a hole in a perfectly good 5L jerrycan (and that wasn't cheap, either) I thought I'd risk sacrificing a plastic one. Unfortunately I couldn't get a small bulkhead fitting so had to make do with a 1/2" one and that wouldn't fit through the cap, so had to drill a hole in the can and plastic-weld it back up. It works well enough though and not a trace of a leak.
Behold, the Culchie Engineering Workshop Feul Kan...
As it turned out, the weight of the bulkhead fitting and the adaptors nicely tilts the canister in the right direction for a rope through the handle to work well.

I recall something exactly like that - the fake screw was in direct imitation of a much more expensive version. Marketing BS, iow. Then as now.
