I’ve only ever played with it just to see what happened. I made LOADS of very fine almost fluffy swarf but it did give a remarkable finish on a bit of plain old scrap mild steel bar

I've some 1" black stock round that is an absolute bastard to get a decent finish on. Perhaps that'll be a decent way to finish it next time I need to turn a piece.

Morning guys I thought I'd do my weekend to today's stuff I've done this week
First cell beam standard fabrication for a Monday
Next is a finished skip finished last Friday
Painted welding mask not quite pastel green but b&q paint for you
Next pic is the build progress of that skip
Next is a cup cake the wife made sadly I only got to as they were for a work bake sale but I can tell you they were delicious lol

I fitted the round bar handrail today.
This place has some gorgeous masonry,notice the batter(slope),on the gable walls,all the new stonework has hidden pointing,in some places gaps were non existent,I can’t even insert my invoice between them.
This is the view on the entrance track,then another from th nearest highway.what money can buy ehh.

In between shouting at Virgin Media, I made this little spindle. Not much to look at, but sometimes I use a sort of one handed sewing awl stitcher. It has these plastic bobbins, and are a pain to refill, so I have promised myself for ages that I would do something about it.

I use an industrial bobbin winder mounted on a board, with a domestic sewing machine motor and pedal. It works great for the machine bobbins, and now I can undo one screw, and pop on a spindle to fit the sewing awl bobbins.

It now take about 30 or so seconds to fill each bobbin.

One question though, I could not get that bit metal to turn nicely. I tried changing speeds, cut depth, even the cutting tool, but obviously I’m missing something.

It is comparatively thin / long piece you were turning, unless it was supported it would be getting a bit bendy which will not have helped the finish.

No ,converted barn follows the groun contours,annoying,but I forgot to photograph the oak behind ,allegedly one of the largest in southern UK,with a girth of 40’ .

Knocked up a press out of some scrap I section and an old scaffold leg. Untested as yet, that will be for tomorrow once I get an end on the screw. No mugs handy so safety gegs for scale. Some of the welding is a bit questionable

I used a taper in the tailstock to support it, which helped a bit, but from the first cut from the 12mm bar, it was dire.

Turned a screw with a flange. Replacement set screw for the tapered gib in my Deckel.

good morning gents, just some 'stuff' I have been doing over the last few weeks
Had the plasma out to do some 6mm alli angle brackets. Had a dxf file given to me for 32 out of a 1200 by 2400mm sheet. Plasma did quite well and the nested file was also good, minimal wastage

once the plates were cut it was off to the new toy ' recently aquired'. Q-Fin top grinder

Also has to put new wear plate and hard facing onto two trawl boards form one of the local fishing boats. Here it is completed with new S/S swivel pins and bar, grease nipples fitted that work ready to return tomorrow

These boards weigh almost 700kg each, so you don't want them to drop on you foot

Started making some chips on the new to me mill, I just need Santa to bring me some more tooling now.

Fiddly job here,wonder if anyone has another way of reducing this shaped washer by 5.25 mm in thickness?
The counterbored side had to remain,whilst the opposite side,with the concave ,was the surface that needs reducing.
I welded it to a slug of mild steel,roughed it with a grinder within 60 thou,then faced it on the lathe.
Forgot to take a photo of the finished washer,which I did on the linisher.
