It doesn't appear to be fastened down. What happens if it suddenly grips or a roller seizes?

Not a lot. I tested it by leaving out the bearing spacer and tightened the bearing down. The wheels just span on the bearing. There are holes to mount it but after that test, I won't bother.

I made a rolling road to test the second hand locomotives I have bought.
This one is pulling over 400mA so it needs cleaning and lubricating.

Top tip: with unknown locos, make sure the motor and motion turn by hand before applying power, the motor windings are so fine that a stalled motor soon lets the magic smoke out.

It also gives a indication on the magnet strength.
They can be replaced, upgraded with ease.
