These are great on ivy, just watch your fingers, turn them off any time your moving around.
I'd suggest locate the ivy stems near ground level and chop it all out, leaving whatever was there before the ivy took over.

These electric secateurs need to be treated with the same amount of respect as a chainsaw!!

I made this Ivy hedge nearly six feet shorter, didn't get a good before picture unfortunately.

New loppers and off-brand Silky saw got a good workout, but I'm not going anywhere near a hedge again without a new pair of secateurs because that was an absolute chore. Think I'll get a Felco No. 8

if you had of used a plastic sheet on the ground it would have saved you all that picking up afterwards

I disagree, they need a lot more respect than a chainsaw. A chainsaw will cut you if you get it very wrong, where as these will have a finger off with a moments inattention.

However used correctly, they are a great tool for smashing ivy.

Ryobi do a longer reach version which should be safer for your fingers.

If its higher up, these manual ones are great.

I've thought about the electric ones, I think I'd get more use out of a good manual pair though.

If it were my garden I'd pull it straight out and reinstate the fence it's engulfed. Actually if it were my garden I'd move, as there's no workshop space.

It wouldn't have helped me stuff it into bags to take to the tip though. The lawnmower picked up all the little bits anyway.
