I'm on 2yrs and 9 months. Sure as s**t my aluminium welds won't look like that in May!

I only weld aluminium, I do it every day,
its only bird cages I make but I still do it every day,
biggest factor is interest in what you're doing, who in the right mind does something for 8hrs a day then goes home to do it again at night, I'm also never happy with anything a make,

perfection is a cruel mistress ! your welds look excellent to me btw.

Another **** of a job, I had been struggling with making a bush for something and was trying to work out what internal thread I was copying, turned out to be 13/16" by 20 so finishing that I jumped onto another job that worked out even more bizarre:



I simply didn't have a tap for this so I reached for one of my get_out_of_Jail tools:


the plastic shroud pushes into the opposite side to the cutter that restores the thread, works really well:




Not cheap though :-(

It is a "Threadmate" and I had a bit of a look around yesterday to see what they are selling at now and couldn't find one for sale. I do remember though it was expensive.

I don't know anything about your specific Aussie offer, of course, but I called my official Hazet dealer here:
Under this designation there is indeed this tool with the identical dimensions as the ThreatMate from @northwest ...
... and Hazet is particularly proud of it: about € 250 including tax!

But there is some confusion:
A stands for external thread;
I stands for internal thread;
G probably just for thread;

At least the external thread version is also available for threads > 13mm (AG-1 @~€ 65, AG-3 @~€200)

This seems to be 1:1 the former ThreatMate (takeover? label?) ...

And then Hazet has probably also a much older own tool at least for external thread still in their program ....

I hadn’t heard of Hazet. Just googled them and found more stuff to buy!

Part of the reason I wondered if they were Chinese is because my link was “mister worker”!

I see I have really started something with this. Just to be clear, if the tool isn't the right match to the thread you are trying to restore it won't work. And like I said, not cheap.

No, I took the paint off it actually, back to the cast iron and finished it with stove black

Please elaborate: They give the outer frame 4-13 or 14mm, 60° - inside that they say left or right hand, metric or whatever all doesn't matter ...

So, what is or isn't the right match thread?

Okay, what I mean is, if the hole diameter is 1", you have to use the tool in that range (7/8" - 11/4") you cannot use the tool for smaller diameter and vice versa, the tool will do left or right hand threads, direction is immaterial, size (diameter) is not. I have tried using the smaller range tool on diameters below (smaller) than it's range and it would not work.
