Over the weekend, nothing special but guy needed them doing, provided me all the equipment I just needed to rock up and glue the metal together..

Frames for holding saplings/baby trees until they are ready to be shipped off.

18 to make, slow start, but took 20minutes per frame once I got going.

I have done something metalwork related... First in months. Still no ideas of turning stuff for the lathe..

You're going to need to explain what I'm looking at please. That gets filled with investment plaster? What are the peripheral holes for, to aid the plaster drying?

Funnily enough I was thinking about starting on a gas cylinder furnace myself. The two bottles like yours are sitting there waiting for me. Got to deal with some personal stuff before I get onto that though.

You know that particular plaster I gave you is made to be specifically air permeable?

So when you pour it in does some initially weep from the holes but it sets pretty quick?

Slip several layers of cut to size newspaper in the ring to form an inner retaining collar to hold the investment in . Vibrate the table with a mains drill fastened down securely and an allen key ...short end in the chuck as the vacuum is applied to help degas the slurry before it sets .


I've not yet made my vacuum chamber up .... too many roundtuits at present but I am thinking that you only need a few pounds of vacuum depression such as found on a small vacuum cleaner if you are vibrating the slurry filled mould .
Back in the early 1980's I saw a demo of a 14-pound bowling alley ball being held in an upside-down plastic funnel attached to a tiny portable vacuum cleaner hose that was being sold to suck up XEROX photocopying powder & suck out crud from keyboards & off PCB's & off fan blades etc..

My thinking is that as the air bubble expands and is still mobile in the newly poured slurry for a minute or more the bubble will float the surface with ease. So long as the form in the mould is well sealed to remove fissures which air bubbles in the form material could cling to.

Here’s the earlier balustrade now installed,took 3 days,all spindles 30mm into the treads,then Ross drilled 60 mm,and a s/s 5 mm pin inserted to resist pull out,the second newel goes thru the quarter landing 900mm and then screwed to under stairs timbers,the bottom newel has a 15mm baseplate slotted snugly between UFH pipes,the whole thing was so tight on tolerance,luckily didn’t have to price it!
The intersection handrail segment took hours between two men,grinding and sanding under a cape to contain sparks with constant fire watching,customer wanted a smooth junction with no screwed joints.

It was a brand new carbide drill bit, but haha yes i was quite impressed too!
I've got a 90deg chamfer mill on its way, I've seen them put to good effect at work for engraving alloy so I've got high hopes.
Now i need to think of something more exciting to make... I've got solidworks, fusion 360 and a 3d mill, I've got no excuse now

The other day I've loaded my spinning reel with 0.20mm 20kg 8 strands Daiwa braided line , roughly 240m on this little 4000 class reel .
Talking about 30 euros fishing line....
I wasn't much happy with how I've wound it on the spool, line was soft and loose .
So I've put the plastic spool on my 7000 class surf casting reel .
Mounted it on my other spinning rod which has a female end , insert my new spinning rod in it (it has a male end on the handle section) so I've loosen the clutch on the little reel and filled the big spool ,once done that did the reverse maybe with 5kgs tension on the clutch.
This way the line is more tight .
Hope this helps with castings .

Left to buy small 3 gr thingy (hard fishing lure) and try bot regular spinning and especially eging .

Clutch alignment tool for my David brown. Undersize on two of the three diameters but not enough to matter on such an old tractor. Also no tolerances specified on the drawing First time I've had to try and be accurate, need to get my head around spacing the cuts and my handwheel graduations.

Great fun to use the smart and brown an what a delight en1a is to machine.
