Never pull a bearing into a housing by the inner race.

It's pushing it in and being angular contact its designed to take load in the orientation its going in but thankfully it required barely any force to slip into its pocket.

Yes its not the ideal way to do it but one has to make compromises with the limited tools they have.

Still not the way to do it. Use the outer of the old bearing maybe?

Doubt you'll see any issue in your application, but do it at my place of work, and you will be shouted at loudly and probably looking for a new job.

With my mini mill, I fitted a flanged deep-groove bearing each side - taken it from a heave the handle round a quarter turn at time, to spinning nicely and freely, with same gib adjustment.

And finished my modifications to the mill bearing blocks so they actually have bearings now and are worthy of that name!

Hoover floating on the end of the spindle bore via the suction worked well for keeping the chips out of the way so I could see the progress.

Then made the spacers to account for what I had removed and spread the load on the bearings better.

have you reduced the gear sizes on motor and increased pulley size on the spindle? i did to increase torque and made a fair deal of difference and got the 2 pulleys and belt off rs

rescued this from a skip 25 years ago.....I knew it would come in handy one day ......got a small project lined up for it, so cleaned up the beading dies and made a small flange die set for it.

yes, all welded construction 8mm plate, and webbed where needed...solid!

So this Sunday I've actually done something
Repaired two angle grinders from work :an Hitachi G13SW and a Flex L811 ,both had cable fault and carbon brushes.
I believe I should ask money for them ,but you know I think it's better to be the tool guy in the shop so they have a reason more to keep me, even if I do those things in the weekend at home.
Then I've made a power cord for my mag drill ,I do like to do those things very nice and a simple thing takes little bit more time , anyway it's something for me so...

Here we are I've cut roughly 4.5 metres length of H05VV-F 3G1.5mm² cable (from the 20m extension cord bought yesterday)
Then I've striped 70mm of cable outer insulation , and striped the wires , exposing 10mm of copper strands and soldered them.
I've then applied two pieces of heat shrink tubing on the end of the cable
one overlapping the other for about 20mm to make it pretty, and both for about 8mm on the wires.

I've then finally put a IEC 309 230V 16A single phase CEE plug
The cable holding collet bites on the heat shrink tubing , and this last one will act as strain relief.
The other end of the cord will receive the same treatment once I'll have all the parts to complete the improvements on my cheap mag drill.
That's the same process I've used to make my welder power cord ,the only difference is that I've used 3 metres of H07RNF 3G2.5mm² for the welder instead ,same plug too.

This little friend landed on my head and stayed with me for a good amount of time

i also changed the motor holding to get more reliable movement to be able to tension the belt properly that helps
the angular contact bearings do help a good deal so see how it goes
upgrade the gib strips to brass too that gets rid of a lot of slop

Hmm now I'm confused, Manual and motor both say 220-230vdc however I'm getting 160v dc max, perhaps I can get away with a 180v dc treadmill motor and don't have to replace the electronics. Was just exploring a closed down kids care home that's been abandoned and spotted a broken treadmill next to it which is 180vdc

A follow up on my lorry tipper build. Slowly progressing on the tailboard and shoots. Time consuming job to get everything working as it should. 2 done and 3 more to do. Then jig and weld the lot.

Went back to the site with the right tools, 1/2" for scale. Clean up and dry should be good to use if not nothing lost.
