coolant leaks are fun.......
had a long term one in the merc. been having to occasionally top up since i bought it a couple of years ago. it'd been getting worse, so i went looking and found a minor leak on the manifold by the fuel filter and egr cooler. a known issue, its made of plastic and the edge of the fitting breaks off by the o'ring and it leaks. i changed it for a febi part. problem solved right? no.
it was now leaking worse. how could that happen? no signs of external leaks but the light comes on after 10 miles. rechecked my work, no trails of crystallised coolant, no visible leaks when running, no drips on the ground, dry when viewed from underneath.. so that's got to be internal right?
these engines are notorious for head gasket leaks and cracked blocks. both tend to cause coolant loss on these with no running issues. so i'm expecting the worst.
one last check before i dump k-seal in it and flog it, (its not worth a engine....) i bought a pressure tester and tested it.
glad i did.
one new hose clamp (this type is overkill for this application but its what i had)

and its good to go.
