I mentioned in another post about using a soldering iron to heat hinges.
This is the iron we used, before it was restored.

Theses flakes of paint can be painful if the dig into your skin.

The iron was tested and then given a PAT, to see if it works and is safe to use.

Metal work was cleaned.

A fine grain beech handle was exposed, we used a Cabinet scraper to remove the old finish and then Rattle can varnish was applied.
