My first thought was an aircraft, but 70,000 ft sounds like a lot for something of that vintage...

My sister asked if I could pop round and screw a couple of pieces of wood to her wall, so she could put a stair gate in. Sounded simple, so I grabbed a bunch of various size screws and a couple of battery tools and went round.
3 1/2 hours later it’s done….. and I’m absolutely knackered. My diseased bod seems to get weaker by the day.
The hard part was fastening to plaster board wall. She bought some of those little spring butterfly fixings, but the plasterboard was fastened up by the blobs of cement method, meaning no room to use them, there was but a 3/4” gap.
Loads of head scratching, puffing and panting, and I went back home and got the big hammer drill, some hefty 4” screws and big rawl plugs.
The wall behind the plasterboard drilled horribly, just seemed to break up as I went into it, starting with a smaller drill and working up. But eventually I got four big plugs in, and carefully tightened down on the huge screws. Amazingly all four got a good grip, and the wood batten appears rock solid.
I slept for five hours straight last night. Not done that for months. The sleep of victory.
Washing up liquid - applied liberally under the feet and where they will be sliding.
Works even better to get it back as it simply dries - might not work quite so well on ply, but on lino, tiles etc - non more trying to rock the thing under a worktop.

I don't know what it was used for. I was trying to find a catalog that I could browse through. I found a couple of their older catalogs for sale on eBay, but I don't want to buy them just to look this up. W. L. Blake & Company date back quite a ways; I don't know how far back, but I did see some office correspondence for sale on eBay dated 1891, and the letterhead said "Manufacturers Agents for Railroad, Steamship, and Mill Supplies."
Interesting that it doesn't say what units are used for the altitude measurement. Maybe it's some kind of 'equivalent' altitude, or ???

Thanks @Onoff. That looks like a virtually identical gauge, other than the company. Since it was manufactured or sold to a boiler company, it seems logical that it could have been used on a boiler or on some kind of steam equipment.
I just tried applying some air pressure to the gauge. The mechanism seems to be working smoothly, but I have NO idea if it's even reasonably accurate anymore. When I applied exactly 35 PSI of air to it, the gauge read 64. The closest pressure unit equivalent to 35 PSI I've found was 71 inches of mercury, which isn't terribly far off, considering that the gauge is probably way out of calibration. Inches of mercury is/was commonly used to measure atmospheric pressure, so that would be a possible unit for an 'altitude' gauge. Maybe one of our steam afficionados would know more about it.

That's exactly how I set in and also replaced both 12 kg washer & later on our 7 kg condensing dryer out in the mancupboard .. giving a light smear of washing up liquid on the top side of the plastic sheet make it slide in & out of the platform a lot easier as well as allowing the machines to be slide backwards off the sheet.
Calculate it so that when fully back the rear feet will be off the plastic sheet by about 1/2 an inch , so all you need to di is gently raise the front and pull the plastic sheet free.

Pressure gauge for engines & vacuum brakes so pressure can be adjusted ???
Finishing off this concrete floor at the back of the workshop,i laid this in 1997! a round tuit.some lengths of 6 round was salvaged from a tube paint rack I last used in the nineties in order to bond with the original pour,then a length of angle,suitably tensioned to the end stanchion to act as an edge finisher,also with spikes. All vibrated with the poker.

I think it's probably feet of water, 35 PSI equates to 80 feet.

35 PSI = about 71 inches of mercury or roughly 81 feet of water. Even though the 64 reading on the gauge that I got from applying 35 PSI is closer to 71 than 80, the gauge could be, and probably IS, way off.
It appears that @Maker is correct. I just found this listing in the 1920 National Boilers, Radiators and Specialties Catalog. The gauge is virtually the same as mine, and it says that it measures the height of the column of water in the system, in which case it would have to be feet of water. Apparently, my gauge is badly in need of calibration.

Kept breaking this locking eye off and picking up another bale of hay for the horse meant I spent 10 minutes grinding back the old rubbish and welding it back on. It's not tidy but the whole headstock was a lash up and is slowly being broken apart but for a lash up it's picked up 2t comfortably and probably shifted 500t plus since built.
Only needs really to take the weight of the headstock when crowded down below 45°, just means I'm less likely to lose the headstock into the stable when tipping the bale off.

im even more knackered today....well that was a lot of sweat...
final grade and compacted
road fabric and shuttering completed (i know its not straight. i ran out of motivation. never let perfect be the enemy of good enough. its not as bad as it looks in that pic) it gets wider as it gets closer to the road as the depth increases. this is intentional.
and poured. 3/4 ton of aggregate(a guess, may be less...), and 2.5 bags of cement.
i am absolutely knackered.
but i am getting there.
sharp sand dumped ready for the surface.
and one ton of aggregate dropped down dads yard to fill a couple of low spots

oh and as a side note. trailer towed perfectly. no bouncing at all except over speed bumps. whereas when empty before i had issues with it bouncing constantly over the slightest bump. there is a side effect that you feel every bump it goes over in the car much more than before, but that's to be expected.

Heavy duty repair of tumble dryer involving vintage Drummond Round Bed lathe
The original shaft had worn through the bearing and finally parted itself off on the sheet metal.
I dressed off the damaged shaft square then added the stub shaft I turned last night on the Round Bed over this, tight fit and secured with a couple of grub screws.
New plummer block added to back then assemble and we can dry clothes again
Cost was about £12 for the plummer block and some free time but saved £250 or more on a new machine and quite a satisfying excercise.
Just need to trim the strengthening bar to fit around the mod then back to work it goes.

I done ours the other week. ordered repair kit from hotpoint £20.
drill rivets out the back of the drum, install new shaft & plate with bolts.
The shaft on ours hadn't eaten quite as far down as yours got but the bronze bearing was in two pieces!
That sounded awful, yours must have been squealing like mad.

I've spent quite a bit of time working away this year and the Mrs doesn't generally put it on when I'm at home. I heard it the other day and asked how long had it been that vocal and endured the 'you're always working away and not here to hear it' speech.... so I daresay it has been squealing like a pig on honeymoon for a while

Stuff called Paraloid B72, Awkward to use as it's dissolved in Acetone and can be used in lots of different applications, an adessive is only one use. Proportions can be varied and other materials added like fumed silica to create a filler. Big advantage over superglue is that it is reversible
