The magnet rotor slipped on the motor shaft and jammed up on my resin printer wash station - it's a bit like one of the laboratory magnetic stirrers, rotating magnets magnetically coupling to a stirrer in vat of IPA.

Spot the appalling design flaw....that's a grub screw tightening onto the 'D' section motor shaft. The plastic is probably a high glass fill - it's incredibly stiff but also brittle. The red highlights cracks




Whilst I wait the 10-20 days for the replacement to arrive, apparently now aluminium alloy, I thought I'd repair this one.

Turned the hub down on the lathe and epoxied a steel tube reinforcing sleeve over it....works a treat.

That'll be a permanent fix.

We are two engineers down, they are sans transport, so i was on call.

So a day of pottering.

A few tools left as a donation.
This gave me a chance to play, learn and draft up methods of saving old tools.

All the all metal tools got a Citric acid dunking.

This was found in the de-rusting tank, so it made friends with this.

The head was given a tumble in a drum polisher.

A new wedge was made from an off cut of hardwood.

A happy marrage.

This Primmer tool bimbled my way.

In bits. It was a sneaky tool.
It hid a tiny, invisible grub screw holding the body to the base.
Dan thing.

Fixed, I use the term loosely, my SIL’s lawn scarifier….the whole rotating drum was seized….after a strip down and clean its now back working….after 25 yrs…cheap black n decker thing…gear driven too, would you believe?
Sorry, no pics, as I did it at their house with minimum tools….hammer, water pump pliers and Philips screw driver and wd40……

New to us Haybob, its been "farmered" so lots of wear and as usual no maintenance but it was the right price! just going through it making it all work hopefully...
Stripping of the tines/return springs/pivot blocks and replacing what needs replacing which is most of it!

The tyres are flat with perished tubes so the wheels will get some love along with wheel bearings, is there meant to be that much play!
Thats not camera angle the inner race moves side to side about 5mm

Split into its constituent parts for my father

He's found a suitable lump of aluminium to machine a replacement bearing hub to take a more readily available bearing.

Given the ****ty little diecast arms to hold on the track tensioner were £150 he decided not to bother even asking about the price of the hub assembly.

Well seeing we don't have a "Stuff I installed today" thread.

My mates 4 range fuse box for the house, he prepared the wall, I ordered the bits, about €600 of box and rcd's and mcb's.

Not finished, he finished work at 13.30 so I phoned local eatery to find out if 14.00 was too late to eat, they begrudgingly agreed, (Chez Manic, @Seadog ). It was awesome went home chilled out, too stuffed.

Replaced the rear wheel sprocket on the Beeza today, and found out that the rear brake shoe linings had got very distinctly iffy.
New ones are on order, and will be fitted with great determination and relative rapidity...

Memories of doing mine according to NF and it was very time consuming. Not helped by the concrete ceilings in the property of course. I didn't incorporate all of the options either.

Getting there with the Haybob, tine holders are a bit worn and a few bent, no idea how you bend 16mm bar tossing hay about!

Built the wear up with weld and a quick tidy up, a bit more finesse when ive found it tomorrow and they will go again! 10 more to do

the lorry developed a water leak in the roof of the toilet. most disconcerting. I had to smash the ply that made up the ceiling skin (I glued plastic to it then glued it to the battens, so it was not coming down in once piece) then pull all the insulation out to dry it off. then go hunting for the crack (I assumed) it turns out I missed when drilling a hole a while back and never sealed it...

however whilst I was waiting for a delivery this morning I decided to do some groundwork out front of my house. I mixed up a load of concrete (by hand, that is hard work!) and laid the slabs I took up 3 years ago back down. breaking one in the process but I really don't care. the slabs in question are the top 4 by the door. they where taken up due to a load of ants deciding to nest in the sand they where laid on. this was annoying due to the ants deciding that my hallway made a good place to live also. changing sand for concrete to base the slabs on solve that issue nicely.

found the leak...

putting the ceiling back up involved screwing a new bit of ply to the battens

then gluing the plastic up, and finishing the edges with some plastic 25mm angle.

I forgot pics though. sorry.

a little bit left to do, then for the first time ever the bog will actually be done. it has suffered for the last couple of years of 'good enough to use, but not quite done' syndrome... so never got actually finished. not letting that happen this time...
