The significant others kia. She rang me this morning after leaving for work, unable to change gear
Went and found her, and swapped cars... managed to get it home without too many crunchy gear changes.
Slave cylinder had a dribble and the reservoir was low
Luckily it's fairly accessible. New one turn3d up and 4.30 this eve, it's fitted, been bled and appears to work on the driveway, didn't fancy a road test in the dark so she can have my car tomorrow.
All in all not too painful

Pesky sliding door on my vivaro! It's had 3 sets of middle rollers in as many weeks! And a new door handle as I ripped that off trying to open it earlier.
They are made of chinaplastic that disintegrates further with every open and close!!
Tried 2 different suppliers and both have been poor quality and not lasted. Both companies are sending free replacements in a few days, luckily I had a spare one and handle too, hopefully they will last long enough till the new, new ones turn up!

Does anyone have any recommendations for good quality ones?

Swapped the carb, fuel pipe, fuel filter, and sparkplug on my Stihl MS 180, was chuffed it ran beautifully, for the first full tank of juice, then refused to start after that, just like last week, now suspecting failing ignition coil.

Then I had random plastic bit leftover, took me a good hour to figure out where it came from.

Bloody chainsaws.

Normally a failing coil starts ok runs for 5-10 minutes and then shuts down when hot.

When the Kenwood cooked itself, it burnt the socket out.
When the plug was pulled the face fell to bits.


So a quick trip and.......

The sparky who did the wires in the new kitchen was a Twonk.
He left no slack at the socket end, I had to dismantle two units to free up some spare.

Rebuilt my old Mac impact wrench, has been run with damp air on mobile compressor with no water trap and then left causing the bearings to rumble quite spectacularly. Couple of new bearings and cleaned off the casing with brake cleaner and it’s back to how it should be; I have been using the biggest Makita 1/2 18v impact for the past few months, however the Mac still beats it hands down for outright power

Acquired 8 days ago, repaired today when the last of the bits arrived.

Stripped in minutes.

If you look closely at the nylon gear, you can see some mashed teeth at about 5 o'clock.
New part £25.50

Some screws (replacing those that "The Bodger" put in) £2.

Some food-grade grease, £3.

Job done.

The chap that got rid of it had upgraded it with a worm drive to control the grind. Forcing screws in, he'd cracked the top, so had to buy the two pieces of plastic - £30!

New, these are about £260, so not too upset at the extra cost (on top of "free ")

Garage roof had been pretty ropey for a while now. Corrugated concrete (which thankfully isn’t asbestos and came back negative) which leaked in various places through. Not uncommon to have a puddle on the bench after some rain…

Anyway I purchased some 80mm insulated panels a month or two ago ready to go on. Since which is bought some steel and osb board and managed to drop on a nice day to swap it over.

The new frames were manufactured in advance out of heftier steel so I should be able to utilise some of the extra space overhead for storage of stock and lesser used items.

It’s not quite finished, but it’s somewhat weather tight. Still some cladding to go on, guttering above the door and some run-offs around the perimeter of the roof.

Happy with the overall result but an unexpected downside is the lighting that was sufficient before is now not good enough, so I need to fit some additional lighting. The ceiling is now white-ish ad I thought that might improve the reflection of light but apparently not… not to worry, another day and it’ll be complete.

Why've you changed the slope to back to front? Easier for drainage?

@MattF because the milling machine motor was literally an inch clear of the original roof, so I’ve added some extra height at the back for the machine, some storage and just general useable space. The area above the garage door when it is open is wasted because it’s inaccessible so no point having the extra space there. Also as you say, water would run off the back and pool on the pad running under the rear wall into the garage, that should mitigate some of that

Not sure if it is fixed or made today.

A friend is in needs of a bench polisher.
I had a spare bench grinder.

So, when I was away I found out the specs and ordered two mop spindles.

But they did not fit, Oh well.
Managed to get some that fitted.

The RHS spindle had a small burr, but that was soon removed.

My tipping trailer wouldn't tip.
Turns out the solenoid had broken through the housing. Called the Norwegian dealer for a new one,£550!

Ordered one from ebay and bodged the housing with to courses of epoxy,some plastic and a mig wire hoop.

Will hopefully last until the new one arrives.

I made a machine/jig for a hell of a job to sand deep and even grooves.

A cross vice handles the X and Y coordinates; for the Z coordinate, I will sequentially place plates under the clamp with the part.

As we increase the height of the floor with the part, we cut deeper.

Anything you can think of to avoid buying a milling machine, oh yes.

I remembered and found in the pile of “metal just in case” the remains of such a device. I removed the extra gears. When the long rusty bolt is rotated, the thick central bushing made of brass pushes the 10 mm stainless steel rod 50 mm back and forth. The bushing has thrust roller bearings (!) and an internal thread M12*1.75. I'll try to make an analogue of micrometric feed. By tilting the angle grinder up to 45 degrees, I change the distance from the abrasive disc to the part. One turn of the screw gives 0.5 mm of extension of the rod. Work for TIG. PS - I made a little mistake with the posting thread.

the wire on my makita charger got ran over (i would assume) and had stopped working unless the wire was held at just the right angle. i had some flat 2 core knocking around from a old laptop charger, so i used that...

shame its white but ho hum, works again.

£550 for a solenoid i hope thats a mistake
