I broke my tail light removing it, developed cracks. Been trying to fix it, though I found a cheap spare so that's on it's way.

Some of the cracks

Making a groove in the cracks to fill with epoxy glue

Epoxy glue having dried and now in the sun for a while to cure faster. Waiting so I can start sanding.

And sanded to 800 grit

Post clear coating, still not cured:

The cracks are not gone, but perhaps less noticable, or not. It won't leak however through the cracks, which is important.

Might have worked better without making the grooves and just going straigh to sanding.

Looks good do people get confused by the amber direction indicator lenses ?

Think I'd need a lottery win or to retire before I could get a lathe (& space to site one)..... unless I wanted a big cast iron Ornament - cos while they fascinate me, I haven't got a scooby how to use one, or the time (& I'd need lots) to learn.

But yeah - it would be nice

Admit I look at small hobby size Lathes when I really shouldn't!
It'd be nice just to be able to turn down a bit of bar to fit, or drill a straight centre hole now n then, & just tinker/play in a basic and mildly inept, non-engineer manner! Just watching the whirly bits and windy bits (that should confirm my non-machinist credentials adequately )

This came my way the other day.
A vice that was hand made and in need of attention.

The brown was a mix of rust, oil and a type of wax.

In bits.

Each screw thread is different to the rest, so they will only fit in one place.

Old school and new school

This stamp was on all the parts.


leaned up.
First it was boiled in washing soda, then had a going over with a wire brush. The the burs were removed with hand tools.

Why there are 4 un-used threaded holes has been lost to the mists of time.

Finished.

Yes I did remove my dirty finger prints.

This tired 6" Bench grinder came way the other week.

Getting it home, did the normal Elec tests on it and it passed.

But running it up, as it got to just below full speed it would pop the Circuit Breaker.

The capacitor had failed.
But a free new one was on it's way to be and soon fitted.

The guards and covers with filled with grinding dust, the stones had slipped on the spindles.
So they were removed, the threads cleaned up.

Clogged up with alloy and it also had a bevel on it.

So it was dressed true and the alloy removed.

A Medium and fine stone are now fitted. The spare course one was only fit to fill the bin.

The eye guards are no longer available from the manufacture, shame.

I do like this type of oil can.

It needed a clean of the tank and then I pumped through Thinners and then meths to clean the working parts.


It is now filled with TYA penetrating oil.

This sweet adjustable was mine for pennies.

Just needed a clean and the threads tidied up.
All ready been used as well.

Why would anyone get confused by amber indicator lights? Is there another color they can be? I mean some US cars are red.

May be, but again the threads are all different. One is even a Left hand one.
