To replace three weak plastic brackets that had broken on our sofa bed:

About twice a year I have to do ‘structural repairs’ to a bed for some humongous bird in the village

This odd container came my way, this is after I ahd dusted it off.

You can just see the residue in the bottles. I have no idea what it was. But the remains had all but glued the caps in place.

Even the protection inserts were stuck.

Holding the caps in hot water, for about 5 mins. Had them loose enough to be removed.

Cleaned, loose caps glued and the leather given a good feed.

I didn't.

The lady who asked me if it couild be saved had good reasons.
It was her Grandfather, who all but raised her. She had a picture of her and him. She is holding that same hammer, she looks about to be 3 years old.

As she recalls it, but with a safe head now. Cleaned,polished and waxed.

Rather than a hammer, I think it's a blacksmith's 'hot cut' tool, one that's had the bevel edged, sharp end ground off. Used to cut metal at forging temperatures, sometimes used with a bottom tool that's held in the Hardy hole.
The rather rustic, odd shaped handle might also suggest it wasn't originally a hammer.
You've certainly done a lovely job of restoring it.

Combination of a erratic maf, knackered injector, jammed open egr and a very slow starter motor.
