Fixed my door knob! It's been loose for a few days but tonight it came off in my hand! Fixed onto the spindle with a grub screw recessed deeply.

The old one comes out by drilling and a first for me, extracted the rest with an easy out.


Next I needed to turn down an M5 bolt to fit the spindle but seeing as I don't have a lathe I ended up with the pillar drill and tooling in the dremmel.

Not flush and certainly not recessed but it's functional

New track rod ends on my beloved Rover 600.

Have to say I remember those with some respect.

I ended up having to drive my bosses to a meeting in Aachen, Germany, from Bradford, via an exhibition at the NEC. I was supposed to stop in Dover for the night, before an early ferry, but kept going, intending to stop in France . . . 3am I arrived in Aachen, and discovered I could still walk, was ache free, and had enjoyed the drive.

Fully loaded with cheap booze for work colleagues ( ie crates of bottles) , four Bridgestone SO2 tyres (cheap in Germany in 1999 ish for my integrale) spread through the car to keep it level, and I had an equally painfree enjoyable drive back - shorter this time as I went Bruges/Hull ferry.

Got written off when his wife clobbered a really bad pot hole and re-aligned the nearside rear suspension.

Mum's kitchenaid stopped working on the lower speeds, she's only had it 25 years, they don't build anything to last these days.


One of the wires had broken off its spade connector. I couldn't find a new one so just soldered it back on and bodged some heatshrink over it. I think I'll have it apart again to have a look at the gears soon, it sounds well rough.

this started with 'lets paint the mudguards'.

it transitioned to 'oh dear, some rust scabs, better clean them up'

then the inevitable 'all the metal disappeared when wire wheeled'

8 hours of welding today......

right hand side doesn’t look to bad here (id rattle canned a bit of paint on as I wasn’t going to tackle this til I painted the lorry but I’m glad I did…)

Cut out the bare minimum to get back to good metal…

Wait, whats that in there… this just became a much bigger job…

Worst of the rust cut out, loose scale removed, rust killed and primed…

Pattern transferred to the sheet metal and cut out.

Welded in

Flap wheeled half decent (more to do here)

Then on to floor… oh dear oh dear, better pull the carpet right out…

Cut out the rot (not anything like as bad as it looks) and rust killed.

Then wire wheeled back and new metal welded in.

Onto the other side, cut out and new piece lined up

And welded in. again more flap wheeling to do.

A bit further down, lets get this fixed too…

And whilst were at it lets get rid of these rivet holes…

I thought I was done cutting stuff out when I sorted the floor. However I gave the inner sill a good prod with a screwdriver and it just disappeared…..

That’s better.

That’ll do, 8 hrs is enough.

for those wondering, the rusty 'sill' section is caused by a absolutely ****e design of the section being open to road spray. the rusty floor on the other hand is caused by a badly fitted windscreen leaking along 3 edges....

i have now replaced the windscreen.

I made a stainless steel reflective mudguard for a band saw. Coolant flowed down the vise guides onto the floor. And added two check valves to the coolant pipes. Now, at any angle of inclination of the saw, the liquid is supplied evenly. Previously, the volume of the flow was constantly changing (airing the tubes)

Heres one i fixed today, well over the last week anyway. He belongs to our local butcher & stands outside his shop. Gets a bit battered over the years, I did him up about 8 years ago & just did the job again.
So he came on holiday to our place, Fibreglassed his loose head back & broken base plate, full repaint. Good for another few years.
Good job this one cos the butcher will say "Do you want paying in money or meat?" No contest there!

Heres one i fixed today, well over the last week anyway. He belongs to our local butcher & stands outside his shop. Gets a bit battered over the years, I did him up about 8 years ago & just did the job again.
So he came on holiday to our place, Fibreglassed his loose head back & broken base plate, full repaint. Good for another few years.
Good job this one cos the butcher will say "Do you want paying in money or meat?" No contest there!

Not looking where I was going I bumped into one of those outside our butchers, I immediately said 'sorry'. Then looked around to see if anyone had noticed.

Finally found a good oil cooled welder!
Local to me, clean with good leads, long 35mm extensions all on plugs, boxes of rods mostly 6013 and a really nice solid cart for £85.
I see them for £50 with no leads in poor condition but have had faults with them so I paid more for a good one.
Presume a Cytringam is same as a Pickhill Bantam or Oxford?
Cleaned up all the connections and checked through and it welds lovely, honestly better them my invertors.

A few years ago I was able to get hold of this socket set. My late father had this set and it was one of the first tools I was able to use.

But it was missing the small Hex bit to allow the sockets to be attached to the handle.

Yesterday I found that missing item.

The drains. I wondered why the manhole cover had water running out of it, so I lifted it up and wished I hadn't. Fortunately a mate loaned me a set of rods, and after I'd wasted an hour trying to push them in the wrong direction, I managed to clear the blockage.

Now I'm wondering why there's fine jet of water spraying out of the front of the brick in the manhole, loosely from the direction of my water meter. I'm also wondering whether it's spraying out of "my" side of the meter, or theirs.

Got the boat club dumper brakes working, dual circuit master cylinder front piston wasn't working no matter what I did so I replaced the spring with a bit of tube so now it presses the rear piston right away which is the one that works.

Make sure you get that red and yellow box of rods, likely to be decent and expensive.

I'm I not mistaken isn't that a gas turbine in which "bit of damage" is more appropriately called sh**s fu**ed

Turn the stop cock off at the meter and let the pressure off in the house and see if it slows down or stops?
