A old bottle turned inti a dribbly candle bottle.
Not a real Wizzard, unless you have dribbly candles.

This pair of RN Fuse pullers and tester came my way. I have used stuff like this years ago.

The handle was broken, easly glued up.
But the internals need to be fixed. The brown item RHS is not a fuse. It is a resistor.
There was much corrosion inside. wire wool and sovent had them cleaned up.

Back together, screws on order and fully working.

Yesterday I need some other stuff than Christmas so decided to repair my 5th 2600-3000 Fronius Magicwave.
But for spares I cracked another Magicwave.

With exquisite timing our oil fired range went properly on the blink on Christmas morning. Once the cooker got fairly warm, the pressure burner would lock out. You have to wait several minutes before the 'lock out' button will allow the burner to re-light; 5 minutes burning, lockout again rinse and repeat. We had 8 guests, dinner was an hour late.

So, today with the range nice and cold, I removed the burner unit and unearthed my box of spare parts for the Ecoflam/Monoflam burner. With fingers crossed changed the Danfoss oil solenoid coil for a new one. Just tested it and it ran straight up to 180C without a hiccup. Testing the old solenoid with a meter shows that it's just fine, obviously the heat is revealing a break in the windings, the first time this happened (about ten years ago) it took me a long time to realise what the fault actually was.

BTW, the only company who I have found who are prepared to repair or service these Watson ranges is located somewhere up in Derbyshire. The bloke who does repairs seems to have a lead time of several weeks before he visits 'darn sarf'; hence my comprehensive spares kit, which now includes a ebay purchase used complete burner where the key components are the same as on 'our' Ecoflam unit.

As tis was after third attempt to do this it will have to do. had a bloody nightmare welding this as i have lost sight in my good eye and Tigging this has been the cause of much stress. If it was for me it would do but its not.
works well though as he wamted the mast to be folding as it was fixed so he asked me to make away it can be folded down.

Just fixed my Meddings Flott pillar drill, after it conked out & was repaired for the second time i made up a new sensor cable for the speed controller, fitted it & no joy. Had another look & found a track on the circuit board to a large transistor had broken. Scraped it all clean & resoldered & away it goes again!
Its a good modern machine variable speed from 500 to 3000 rpm & very handy for small stuff like instrument work & drilling tiny holes.
Problem with these is the motor & quill moves up & down as a unit within the casing, all the electronic control gear is inside the front casing & fixed solid, so there is a long run of cables that flop about & hit sharp bits on the castings, cable runs are now all clipped up & armoured so they wont chafe through again.
So its repreived from the skip for the third time!

Not so much fixed today more cleaned up, this 3 metre antenna is for about 450 mhz, it is carbon fibre made i think mid 80's but the carbon finish was weathered so some sanding and my goto lacquer and ithas already started to look better.

Little bracket of a 1970 Honda not sure what it's a friends project material unknown it's like aluminium but melts way different I've basically glued it if it works all is good, part maybe not available anymore

A few minutes ago I received a package.

In it was two Mamod whistles.

I wsted no time in fixing two shortfalls on two of my Mamods.

Some time back I restored this very early Mamod Steam Roller,.

It bugged me that I could not find a old whistle in the UK at a decent price. I found a good site, but the cost put me off.

So I brought a modern unit.

You can tell it is a new item, as it has a nut and bolt fixings.

Fitted.

I think it is in keeping with iut's age.




This one of my other Mamods. It always bugged me that the box was from a older item. But this one was a Factory rebuild and sold through a Mamod outlet.
The Whistles is not the same as the box and dates from a few years after this engine was built.
Yes, it is an approved rebuild. But The picture on the box shows an old style whistle.
But the cost in the UK put me off doing much about it.

Had it in bits, as far as I could go.
With out loosing the original fixings.

My Kismet Lorry (ex my dad, probably ex his dad) has a Shrader valve fitting end for a tyre pressure gauge to be used - never seen another "Lorry" like it.

Both my Lorry and the Trolley, while having new leather washers, non-perished air hose etc, look the age they are - rather than new shiny paint and polish - just seems to fit better with their life history.

The first image does not show the issues with the pump.
Mainly it was only as good as a door stop.

By the time I had it in a state to set it to work, it was in need of more tlc.

A friend was struggling to find someone to sort out the old flue after her boiler was moved.

A bricklayer I am not but it is at least a bit less draughty

Wall is a mess of imperial and metric bricks so used a couple old bricks that were lying around in the back yard.

I find that certain items look great showing they're history and natural patina, and others look better with a fresh restoration, as sometimes it feels depressing if every item is looking old and dreary; kind of like me.
