Apparently it's just my month for low-level bad luck...

Nothing of mine broken (that I know of), but a bad day for the poor sod who slid his new company car into the back of me as I was gingerly slowing down from 15mph in anticipation of having to descend a steep hill with less than ideal traction.

Very apologetic, accepted responsibility immediately (in the way company car drivers are categorically told not to), and clearly gutted.

I will have to let my insurer know tomorrow and suffer the inevitable premium rise in January (always felt that it's rum you can get a premium rise when it's not your fault, but better that than the premium rise associated with getting your insurance cancelled for not reporting).

Fortunately for him he slid enough to one side that the tow-ball missed his radiator.

I had someone try to rip the side out of their car on my front mounted towball, I reported it to my insurance as they wanted to claim even though they had pulled out in front of me. My only damage was a crack in my 99p plastic cover which I had to turn round to hide the crack my next renewal showed £500 damage to my car as that was the minimum the computer would allow.

I've had customers who have had their motorcycles stolen and not claimed on the insurance.

By the time the excess is paid etc and the inevitable premium hikes it's not worth claiming.

Sad state of affairs really, and only one winner.

Same with attempted theft, if the repairs are less than £1000 it is 50/50, whether people will put a claim in..

I have clearly lucked out with whichever underwriter AdrianFlux assigned me to this year.

After a slightly circular conversation about the fact I didn't want to make a claim, they put me through to a Scouse lady who explained they have the option to take what they call "Information for advice"

Effectively you don't want to claim, the other party says it doesn't want to claim, but you're fulfilling your duty to report it under the policy.

Assuming no claim is made by the other party, then it won't affect your NCD or premium; if the other party does claim then they have your report on file and won't penalise you for non-reporting.

The whole system is a complete mess here, and every time I speak to my mates in NZ I am reminded that it really doesn't need to be that way.

I feel like if universal basic Third Party Insurance was paid for out of our annual Road Fund Licence contributions and topped up by a percentage of the Fuel Duty take, it would be a lot cheaper overall for many, if not most drivers.

Not to mention that if the vast majority of accident repair was paid for by a single provider they'd have a much stronger position to keep their own costs under control.

Of course being the UK as soon as a system Iike that was accepted as a success, they would immediately privatise it so that you had to wait six hours on hold to speak to a sub-sub-contractor in Chennai who could only authorise sticking the car back together with used chewing gum, until you insisted on having a 30 minute argument with his manager.

Waaah! I only got my car back a week ago from repairs occasioned by a very deep set of potholes on the M4 ( now repaired and smoother than a baby's bum.)
As I was about to take Alison the hospital this afternoon she said after she had got in the car " Did you know there is a long scrape on the LH door and front wing ? " .

Me , " No ". At the hospital I took a peek before we went into the reception , OMG , another insurance claim ..tomorrow is going to be a busy expensive day methinks.
I've only made two journeys since the repair . one not a likely cause for the damage but last night a three mile trip saw me versing in slashing deafening rain & wind with a massive flood light blinding me from the front and the rear view camera so misting up just not able to handle the rain , is how I think I caught a small black metal post that didn't register on the reversing sounders .

The blower fan for my cars cabin broke, stopped blowing air, perfect timing as we got a snowstorm. Snowed 20cm overnight. Broke halfway to work so I had to drive 15km in the snow without the blower. Then the CEL light also came on....

Took this before leaving this morning, got up at 5:45 to start plowing.

Don't envy you on that, does the Volvo at least push a decent amount of air through the heater matrix whilst you're moving?

That would be the snowstorm my colleague in Tampere was hoping to avoid driving home through when we spoke into yesterday morning.

Meanwhile my other colleague was saying his father up in Utsjoki was complaining that the Norwegians were getting all the good snow and whilst he had barely enough to groom the ski trail with.

We had about 75-100mm in 2 hrs, by 6am the county council had cleared and gritted all the main routes, apparently the three bus crashes in the snow on our hill over the last 5 years finally registered with their highways team.

It's complete potluck how well or badly each area of the UK copes with snow.

Yeah the same storm. Fortunately there was enough air to barely keep the windshield clear. I got the tip to open a rear window a little to create a better draft.

I've ordered a new blower and a OBD2 reader that is hopefully compatible with the 850 OBD-II app I got. I should be able to read and clear error codes on it.

Most of the rural routes round here were ok, Yorkshire Water pays a guy in the village to grit one for access to its facility, and the local farmers do a lot of the others for their own convenience.

I find it's worst on major routes when you get lots of traffic over the snow before sun-up and it just turns into "Neve" type ice.

Kinda fixed, but I suspect I need a new set of £100 proprietary hinges.

Without the clamp the door can only open and close as all 3 panels, rather than using the primary door at the lock side.
