Storing drills and drill-shaped things

I reckon I'm pretty adept at getting decent storage solutions for all my bits and bobs, from a vertical mini-shelf stack for all the batteries, to three upright poles to hold the grinders by their handles, to a long piece of drilled wood for all the lathe drill bits, chuck keys etc.

But my drills (and I have many!) and drill-looking-things, like heat guns, torches, air blowers etc. are all just piled onto a shelf.

Looking for inspiration on a better way to store them - something that the chucks or handles go into, for example?

No such thing as bad ideas, other than the obviously bad ones

I keep the boxes for them and then stack them on shelves. Same with angle/die grinders and finger files.

Strip of metal bolted to the wall with bits of round bar welded onto it that the chucks grip onto?

Or a rack with some round tubes that the chucks drop into?

Or pegs and make up a shadow type board?

I keep a couple of cheapie sets (one imperial and one metric) in the drawer of my main tool chest along with the small battery powered drill for 'daily use' .

I don't have the problem - one corded drill, one battery drill.

Have to say, they does look neat.

Mine are just in a long tool box, while it keeps them altogether it's hell sifting through them looking for a particular bit.

Laid out flat like yours in drawers---heaven.

I use those big green recycle bins. Half a dozen power tools in each. Loop the cable once or twice until its about 1m long then tie a knot in it to stop it getting knotted!(!)

I havn't a photo anymore ( need to make a new cupboard) but I used 4" drain pipe end on screwed to the back of a cupboard.....
the drills etc just get pushed in...obv the pipe cut to length minus the handle or even a slot...
I keep my cords coiled up with just enough near the machine/handle to hook it over the sticky out handle...
all positioned in a row like ducks....

You can find Makpacs with inserts really cheap, when they are leftover after a company takes out the combi kit parts and sells them individually. They also tend to have drill inserts because so many combi kits have a drill.

Makpacs attach to each other to make solid stacks that you can wheel around on a hand truck no problem. They aren't incredible quality but robust enough if you aren't abusing them, they are a little thin so avoid smacking them into corners or dropping them. But for the price when going spare, really good.

They aren't incredible quality but robust enough if you aren't abusing them, they are a little thin so avoid smacking them into corners or dropping them. But for the price when going spare, really good.

Yeah I have 5-6 of them, they are large/deep enough to store 2-3 small power tools in them but the lid catches can be a real pain to engage.

That's a really common complaint for them but something I haven't struggled with at all! I must have gotten all good ones or have some particular way of doing it.

Heat gun you can get a 3D printed wall mount.

They're a good price, better than what I paid for a load of inserts from Van Racking Solutions. But at least you can buy them by size rather than a sets.

Loads of 3D printed storage available. Gridfinity is a very very popular storage solution.

Bott Perfo twin hooks work well. You could always screw them directly to a backboard, if you didn't go the whole hog.

Space is at a premium in my garage, and yes, I may be a bit OCD

(the rest of the garage is nowhere near as tidy!)
