I've only just run it for an hour or two! Also, no idea how to port one - & as its not a motorbike I think I'll keep it as it is & just try chopping the tree down & up with it

You chop with axes not chainsaws Chopping with a chainsaw will damage the chain and bar, please use it sensibly

No - only just bought my cheapie saw - and ran it in cutting Firewood gently a few days ago.
I've a not-too-big Ash with dieback to get rid off out of the hedgerow by the road on the property boundary - that's why I bought it

I wasn't planning to swing it like an axe no . OK, I'll admit to incorrect lingo - I'll be trying to  cut the tree down

Truth is I dislike the autotune and mtronic saws, that MS400 is just so light and powerful
for its size.
I had a lot of Makita saws, 7900 's and 4300 's , I sold them all when Makita did
the dirty and stopped producing them. Then I moved to Echo, only had the CS500 's and
two cheap CS352 models.
Echo is not cheap in Ireland, I had a fancy to the 4310 but its too expensive for its size,
split mag case though and very light.

Oh boy, they are not a cheap saw to buy and for it to get damaged so quick is a real pain. Are you used to chainsaws, they take quite a bit of minding, even getting the chain tension just right is important, new saw chain will stretch so have to keep chicking, and one tickle in much stones or anything gritty will blunt the chain and the engine will race as the blunt teeth don't cut or grab to slow it down, its a downward spiral from there on, it takes very little time to melt down a saw, I have seen the plastic on these melted never mind the piston.
Hope you get it sorted.
If you do, turn the bar every few tanks so it wears even on both sides, and keep the chain sharp, best to have a few
chains and swap them out, then sharp them after the job is done.

A cheap but worthwhile upgrade is a muffler mod.
Just did it on a Stihl Ms290 and it now has a lot more power.

First thing I do on every new saw after I test it and all is well, I remove any cat
with immediate effect and enlarge the outlet a little, and retune where required.
Not so easy to port a clam shell type, but improvements can be made.

This is a cheap generic Chinese 20" Vevor Saw (think the OP was talking Stihl). An £80 chainsaw bought really only for this job , to get rid of this one dying tree, & turn it into Firewood. It's a cheaper solution than anything else, even if this job is all it does.
(I have bedded it in gently on some Firewood cutting & adjusted the chain for the first time already. Hopefully I've done things correctly enough so it'll do the main job ahead of it. After that, the saw won't have anything to do except the odd bit of firewood - not regular or hard work).

True, did you use a tach to tune it afterwards so it doesn't go lean. Just saying for people reading this
