hollow sections, tubes and durbar floor plate to hot rolled , flowforge( and clips ), weldmesh, engineering steels , tube clamps,hand railings ,and galvanised sheet in an extensive range of sizes and specifications.

They can order special stuff in ferrous or non ferrous as well.

They also have the facility to cut metals to the exact size ( or should have very soon ).

They can deliver or you have the option to collect ordered steel at a pre arranged time .

Ring first to place your order and then be invited into the plant . Write down the info you need for the collection.

Take your mobile with you so you can call them when you arrive .

There is a booking in system by the gate house and a safety sheet to read. You then weigh in the empty vehicle , proceed to the Grange store (about a mile away ) collect and pay for the materials and then hit the weigh bridge on the route out , hand in the loading /weigh bridge docket to the gatehouse on the way out.

I have had sheet steel , bars, tubes , angles and hollow box section much of which was cut to size . For me it is far cheaper to do the 60 mile round trip than going to a local steel stockist ,for I usually combine duty and pleasure trips ( IE. Go fishing in the local oggin , have a meal in Swansea Marina area with my lass etc and then call in the stores.)

It has been good to get pre cut bits for my small trailer building jobs, draw the plan and make a cutting list.
Note well...
They only sell complete lengths or units so when you get say, a 5 mtr length or a sheet cut you pay for and get both bits, cutting charges are something like 75 p per cut

I've used this place several times (found it in the metal suppliers list here). They trade as Alloy Sales and although they deal primarily in aluminium, they have a good range of stainless steel, brass and copper. The £50 minimum order might apply if you ask for delivery but I've also collected smaller orders from them at no charge.

I've used them mostly for stainless, with some aluminium and a little bit of brass. They are very friendly and easy to deal with. A couple of times, rather than wait for exactly what I ordered to come in stock I've been offered something as good or better. e.g. "We don't have that size in 304 at the moment - would 316 be OK at the same price"? Err... yes!

Dead easy to order. Just do it all online, even if collecting in person.

No connection at all with them, except as a satisfied customer.

Hi all

In Mansfield on the Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire border is Parkside Steel at Sherwood Park Annesley Notts NG150DJ http://www.parksidesteel.uk.com/index.html about 1 mile from Jcn 27 of the M1.

They talked in Imperial so I bought 6 metres [ Yes I know ! ] 1" , 1.25" 1.5" round 16 gauge and 1.5" x 1.5" 16 gauge 6 meters [ 4 pieces cut twice each to get in the car ] and it cost me £55 with vat. On the invoice they quoted in Kilo's and I bought 30 Kilo's , if someone wants the individual prices please PM me.

Sorry I have no idea whether that is good or bad but it was only a 20 minute trip for me so saved transports cost , I asked for the pieces to be cut into 2 x 8 foot lengths and I wanted the offcuts [ not sure if I was charged for cutting ] they seem to have been pretty vicious with the ' offcuts ' maybe not realising they were important to me.

Can I put a shout in for Mercer's of Blackburn?

I got 7 meters of 25x25x3mm box section for £16 including a £2 cutting charge to get it in the van. This actually seems to be a fairly good price, correct me if I'm wrong.

good range of stock both large and small sizes. Will put the lamp through lengths so you can get them in the van, best to ring up before if you want lengths cut. they tend to round prices down to suit cash sales, i.e, £77.28 becomes £75.


P.S. has anyone used Cwnbran steels recently? i have tried to get hold of them a few times recently but never get an answer. i thought they might have gone thru?
