A steel place on the other side of the city from me is a bit like that, if they know you, you can root around the scrap bins a bit and get a bargain.

I was watching a programme last night on the telly called "uk's metal thieves" or something like that. It was showing idiots stealing metal off the railways, electrical substations and other places. They would have a field day in a shop like that.

2002 I was in Moscow visiting the BIL. One day on the train I saw 2 body bags and one lone Police officer. I asked what was going on. BIL reply was blunt.
"They were metal thieves, they are dead, they were steeling metal." it was said in a casual manner.
When I pressed for a answer about the remains, I was told they will remain there until the remains are collected, if not they get burnt and shoved into a common grave.

Yup, that's life in the whatever they are calling themselves now, I was in Murmansk back in the 2000's and I wouldn't leave the ship alone after dark, used to go out with one of the ships crew, ex Red Banner Fleet sailors, boys took good care of me,veven they used to say life was cheap there.

Its hard to have sympathy though, they knew the risks, it didn't pay off, they paid the ultimate price.

Just been on the phone to a old friend.

He reminded me the time in the 1980@s when we would go to Ponds Yard, Portsmouth for metal, wood and parts for the stuff we were making, sham it has gone now.

We would have good plans to get in and get out. We never did.
